Is he truly nothing more than an overpaid mediocre at best lineman or can he actually step up? I keep wanting to believe the latter based on how much we paid him. The guy is so inconsistent. He either plays like dog shite or is on point. I still remember that nasty block on JJ Watt who I think was mic’d up

He’s not great, but he’s a lot better than this fan base gives him credit for. The inability to stay on the field is far and away the most frustrating thing.

Agreed. He’s a lot better than most give him credit for, but he isn’t a perennial all-pro or anything like that.

Agreed. If you read this board and didn't know who Andrus Peat was you'd swear he wasn't even deserving of an NFL roster spot

To be fair, we have been spoiled with guard play for the past several years. But, there are too many that put too much weight on that top 15 draft slot and only see him as a complete bust because he had never measured up to his draft spot.
I said in another thread, I think this is his contract year. He's the 10th highest paid guard (per cap number) in the league this year. But, cutting/trading him puts a big burden on next year's cap when the team is already $50-60M over. Next year he'll be the 4th highest paid guard (per cap #), and designating him as a post 6/1 cut would save $11.8M against the cap but pushes ~$10M to 2024 (still saving $8M against '24 cap). Cutting him pre-6/1 still saves $1M in '23, and eliminates any cap burden in '24

PFF had him as the worst pass blocker last year. Dead last. And then he got hurt again. Making a shite ton of money. The pro bowls are a joke. He’s not good.

It's a lot of money, but 16th highest paid guard in the league during 2021 isn't really considered a complete waste considering his level of play when healthy. And that is considering many of the best guard in the league are still on rookie contracts.
I'll agree that I do not think he earned the money with his current contract, but he should be compensated as a starter until the team finds someone to replace him as the starter.
