Underhill:

quote:

Andrus Peat agreed to a reworked contract that takes his salary-cap number down to about $8.8 million from his previous number of $18.3 million

More from Underhill:

quote:

Saints added a void year to Peat's deal, but what's interesting is that his base salary for 2024 was dropped to the minimum and, unless there was an input error, it looks like the team and Peat can split ways after this season.

As expected.

I know many won't like it but keeping this O-Line together is going to be crucial for Carr this season. And when healthy they're really one of the better O-Lines.

I'm really interested in seeing Penning's progress this season and adding some quality youg depth in the draft.

Ruiz is scheduled to get paid next season and according to some that value could be in the realm of 14mil/yr. The Saints better get a viable replacement for him in this years draft.

So did he take a pay cut or is this purely can kicking?

I was going to give the front office praise for not kicking this particular can down the road, so that we could finally get out from under his contract. Now we're stuck with an average at best OL that's about to have cap hits of an all pro OG

Somebody check my math, but he lowered his base to 2.3M so 9.5M is spread out over 23, 24, 25, adn 26? (he has 2 void years)

I'm assuming (but could be wrong) this is can kicking. If there's a paycut they usually note it (like in Jameis's restructure)

Cap space is $8.8mm for top 51 and $3.6mm for all per spotrac

ETA looks like they don’t have Saunders or Williams’ figures yet

The feeling should be near unanimous I'd hope.

Even AK, who is clearly declining and facing the age of the RB cliff, at least can create hope.

Peat? No.

I think you gotta get another DT pre draft, probably 2. Right now we have 3 total.

It's not really a can kick, basically just cap gymnastics setting up future cap moves it seems.

2024 seems like we are out on him regardless thank God.

It was both per Triplett. He took a salary reduction then they turned his reduced salary into a bonus and added the void year to spread the cap hit.

Damn so he has 3 void years now?

We're probably going to be back in the same spot next year, which sucks considering we're already like $100M over the cap

Takes a salary reduction yet you continue to melt

After this, I don't know. We may have to sign him to an extension now.

He's a $13.6M dead cap hit on 2024 now unless we re-sign him

We still pushed more dead cap onto 2024.

We should have cut him to eat it now with all the cap space we cleared for 2023. There wasn't a need to use his contract to clear more space.

It must be exhausting to go to sleep worrying about the saints cap, and then wake up doing the same.

ETA... saints were like 60 million over, and they found a way to sign the qb they wanted, a good rb, MT back, Johnson, and started the process of rebuilding dline. I'm done worrying about cap space.

It's not. It requires very minimal amounts of my brain.

I spend more time listening to movie and economics podcasts while walking my dogs every day
