How is he going to answer when the next free agent asks him why he's living in Dallas?
Or what will the team's answer be to the wife of the next free agent we are competing for when she asks why the head coach moved his family out of the New Orleans area.
It just doesn't look good. It feeds a belief that this place is not a nice one to live in. Mostly true but thats why people are so sensitive to the issue.
Obviously he is going to have to address this issue directly and I'm very curious to hear what he has to say.

As long as he is in town for the season, OTA's, training camp, draft, etc; i could care less where he lives
I would agree with this if his family had been in Dallas the whole time like Cowher's being in Raleigh and Dungy's staying in Tampa but it is extremely odd for them to abruptly leave during the kid's school year.

as opposed to all the players whose families live in New Orleans. So if 80% of the saints players live in NOLA, that won't have any influence on a free agent?
Rich people have multiple homes. I'm sure the majority of NFL players and coaches do as well
This is only big news because it is Dallas. Had this have been any other city, no one would have cared

their reasons are theirs alone.
so long as it doesn't impact him coaching the team, which I 100% believe it won't, i have no problem with it

Dallas makes it bigger news but had it been any NFL city without an established coach it would have caused a ripple.

Would ya'll be pissed if Payton said his family is moving to McComb, MS?

They addressed it last night. Said Payton was not going to Dallas in any capacity.
Dont think you're getting anything more than that from SP publicly addressing the living home of his family

It would be an issue no matter where it was.
If him or his wife or whoever made this decision loved living here or felt it was a great situation they would not being doing this. What this says to people is the Payton's dont like living here. That is the perception. People are taking it as a rejection. Sure its irrational, but its an emotional reaction. Its personal to a lot of people. Always been like that in this area and post Katrina it is more intense.

NOLA blowhards need to realize it isn't personal. Its not like they've never lived in Dallas before.
They lived in the Sanctuary for goodness sake, and Payton lived in NOLA during most of the season anyways.

I promise you he will be asked about this the very next time he is in front of media. Guarantee. He's going to have to do better than, "I'm not going to discuss the reasons we live where we live"
Benson will be asked, Loomis will be asked, Brees will be asked. I'm not saying its all that important, but it is a story.

Great, our season is ruined before it even started

Posted on 2/7/11 at 6:38 pm to Tiger985
Just not the best local PR move IMO, but he's got to do what's best for his family.
If he can just hold out long enough for brees to retire and take over the coaching reigns.

Its only a story because its a DFW suburb. And Westlake is just as far to the Cowboys Practice facility as his house in Mandeville is to the Saints.

Why? What happens if he says that same exact thing?? Ticket holders not going to pay? People going to burn there jerseys on youtube?
What power do you think you and the rest of NOLA blowhards think you have to force an answer? Besides bitching on the internet and sports talk radio you've got nothing.

The only thing worse would have been Payton to say they were moving to BR.

You are dead wrong about this. That is the national Ed Werder angle. All people here will hear is the Payton's don't like living here. Period. Doesn't matter to them if its DFW, Atlanta, Chicago, Boise, or Juneau. Its purely emotional and totally irrational but it is what it is. No one worried about Payton coaching the Cowboys, more concerned that he is rejecting their hometown area.

Let's see how pissy people get when Drew Brees comes out in support of SP

It is a bit of a slap in the face considering what he wrote in his book. Am I worried about him leaving the saints, not at all. But I'm not low class enough to call his wife a snooty bitch. She probably doesnt like not being able to go anywhere without being hassled. Covington mandeville so small that she probably can't escape. Where as she might want to get away from it all and just raise her family while her husband lives in the limelight.
