Drafting McCarthy would not be playing it safe. He has as good or better body of work than any of the other candidates. Joe Brady has no experience building or rebuilding a team. I'd take him as an OC but you are really rolling the dice on him as a HC given where the Saints are right now.

McCarthy gets a bad rap. He got Green Bay to the playoffs 9 of his 13 years, to the NFC Championship game 3 times and won a Super Bowl. He won 12 games and made the playoffs in 3 of his 5 seasons at Dallas, under control freak Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones handicapps any coach in that system.

Also, McCarthy was fighting with one arm tied behind his back in Dallas. Jerry Jones has way too much input in the team. I think with a little more freedom he can turn this Saints franchise around.

Just my 2 cents.

Don’t forget that as an OC he got the Saints their first playoff win. When he left we were a perennial 8-8 team under Haslett.

McCarthy is a good coach. I’m ready to move on from “continuity”.

Bingo we have a winner...

My point exactly. And let’s not forget the absolutely miracle at Century Link with the Seahawks getting the onside kick AND 2 point conversion. His team often let him down, not the other way around. They went into Seattle, the defending champs, and handed them their arse for most of that game.

Just complain and draft 1st round QB after first round QB

What other organizations have avoided drafting QBs like we have?

keep hiring and firing coaches because what we have sucks and shiny new name or trend has to be bette

Hmm you sure this describes me? I’ve actually defended DA and Carmichael at times because I knew they were set up for failure. I wasn’t a fan of theirs but I knew Kubiak wouldn’t make a major difference with our horrible roster.

I wanted us to take the green bay approach and draft Brees’ heir one year “too early”. Sean wanted to start over and rebuild with a new quarterback but Loomis wouldn’t let him.

With a guy like Brady, you really have no idea what you are getting.

That’s the point. I would rather take a chance on someone new with upside rather than a known commodity.

Keep in mind that Brady has had the benefit of working with Joe Burrow and Josh Allen at two of his gigs. Those aren't bad hands to be dealt. When he was in Charlotte with Bridgewater and Darnold they sucked. So the question becomes how brilliant of an offensive mind is he really? And of course there's the obvious risk that he's never been a HC before. I would take McCarthy if given the choice.

The longer this goes on the more likely it is McCarthy. He has 20 years of contacts with high level assistants. If you hire Joe Brady or Kellen Moore, they are going to be behind the 8 ball getting assistants.

Josh Allen also got Brian Daboll a HC gig

And Burrow got Brady a NFL OC gig
