Tampa game in 2006
Minnesota last year, he almost singlehandedly helped us win that game
Atlanta, I think it was last year, maybe 2 years ago, he scored the go ahead touchdown in the final minutes
also put us in position to beat Denver last year

equally sad that some people are so blinded by black and gold that no one can critize poor play by and overhyped, over paid player because he plays for the Saints.

I am sure you weren't this critical last year when Reggie was leading the league in scoring before he got hurt.

It was obvious you were giving him an answer, nimrod. I don't think that's up for debate. Your answer, however, was a pitiful reflection of Reggie's pitiful 3 year career in the NFL.

Not as much as:

Maurice Jones-Drew
Ladanian Tomlinson
Adrian Peterson
Michael Turner

In other words, backs who actually contribute on a consistent basis and do less harm than good.

Or in the case of yesterday, try to lose them for us.

Here are some things you might want to consider:

2005:

Haslett was on his way out long before Katrina put a spot light on the exit sign. The team was in total chaos. Players were fighting more in the locker room than on the field...the 3-13 record pretty much represents this.

San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger pushed to keep the Saints there and there were strong reasons to believe that Benson was part of the relocation strategy. Taglibue forced his will on Benson and hammered out a deal to keep the Saints here.
Thank God for Taglibue.

The big question was: How would the fans react to Benson's act of betrayal? Would they show up, or stay at home (if they had one).

2006:

Due to Haslett, Aaron brooks, and personal issues in the locker room, the team had the #2 pick. Mario Williams was the consensus defensive pick of that draft and Reggie Bush was the consensus offensive player. The Texans picked first and selected Williams. The Saints, naturally, selected Bush.
Every media outlet in the world laughed at the Texans for by-passing Bush...it was the right and only pick the Saints could have made.

It was the excitement around Bush that got the season ticket sales pushed to all time numbers. The Saints had rarely had a player of Bush's celebrity on the team. The only thing that comes close was drafting Archie Manning.

This same year, Drew Brees was released by the Chargers and Drew received interest from several teams...including the Saints and Dolphins. Luckily, Sabin chose the wrong guy when he picked Culpepper over Brees. Remember, Brees was no sure bet when the Saints signed him to a Top 10 QB contract.

The excitement surrounding the 2006 season was based upon Bush, not Brees. The fans flocked to the Superdome because of Bush, not Brees. Luckily for us, Brees has turned out to be a Top 3 QB and the excitement continues due to his leadership, dedication to the city, and his outstanding play making.

My position is simple: Bush got the ball rolling and Brees is now pushing it higher. I don't like that Bush makes the money he does for the production we've seen; however, there's no telling where (and I mean that literally) this team would be without him.

This is a long thread, and many won't read it. That doesn't matter, it had to be said.

Agree completely with everything that you just said, and that was an excellent post. No matter what anyone says and even if Bush continues to be a mediocre player and Williams makes the HOF, Bush was the right pick for the Saints at that time. But, it's not that time anymore and we have been waiting for 3 years for him to live up to the hype, many us haven't given up completely on him yet, but you have to admit if doesn't live up to that potential soon, It will be time to thank him for what he brought to the team thus far, and move on to make the team better. I do feel like trade talks and talks of releasing him makes no sense now. We probably couldn't get enough for him to make it economically feasible, but if this is the production we can expect, contract negotiations should be interesting next year or the year after.

,

Whodatfan you must leave the board, now . You know you're not allowed to say anything bad about Breesus. Only certain players can be talked about.

According to Saints board rules: You may only talk negative about the following.

Reginald Martinez Bush
Scott Shanle
Sean "Peyton" Payton..Superdome Special Plays
Robert "Meachum" Meachem Mania
Poor Run Blocking (for Tubucoco)
Trading 2 draft picks for Shockey
Malcolm Jenkins 40 time
Devery's Drops
Lance Moore should be traded

While this was probably Reggie's finest hour, the Saints actually lost this game.

Man, I thought that I was a Saints fan but I had absolutely no clue that any of these beasts played for the Saints ever.

I think you're missing an obvious point here

Those players are impact players that consistently help their teams win games

Bush shows flashes of greatness but the vast majority of his career has been mired by obscurity and mediocrity. If he didn't have all the hype that came with his status as the no. 2 pick and a brilliant college player you probably wouldn't think he is so awesome.

This is my official opinion on Bush:

The good: great burst and can make plays in special teams and is an asset in the passing game

The bad: never has adapted and become a good NFL running back.

The ugly: He puts the ball on the turf way too much and seems to get frustrated easily

Reporter: "Reggie did you hear the boos?"

Bush: "Uh, yeah I did," Bush replied.

Reporter: "Have you heard that very often?"

Bush: "No."

Reporter: "Is that like a first time for you?"

Bush: "I think so, yeah."

Reporter: "What's your reaction to it?"

Bush: "It's part of the game, you know. It's what happens. And, I just gotta find ways to get better. You can't complain about it because if I don't like it, then I gotta do something about it."

On way to locker room just saw Reggie Bush practicing catching punts from the JUGGS gun at Saints practice field. He was working solo.

Bush twitter-
When tough times arise keep your faith in god. Know that he will not put you thru anything you can't handle! Tough times build tough people

That is solid, even with all of the hype surounding him, it never was him who brought attention to himself. I definetely respect his response and not making excuses, then doing things to try to fix the issues.

If Bush went to LSU instead of the hated USC people would give him more of a chance, ie Devery Henderson. IF he stays healthly he will help our team win, period. Is he what we hoped for out of college? No. But luckily we still have the best offense in the league and he's just another weapon for Sean "the mad scientist" Payton to use. Now do we resign him to some huge contract hell no. But let's use him why we have him.
