Oh, and the Vikings lost the NFC Championship game because of their 5 turnovers. Putting hits on Favre didn't force him to throw an interception to the other side of the field on a possible game winning drive.

No, they lost because the Saints hurt Favre's ankle so bad he couldn't run for a first down at the end of the game which whould have led to a field goal by Longwell.

It's like SMU getting hammered with the Death penalty and the NCAA saying "we will do our best to avoid any payment of collegiate athletes," when we all know that most , if not, all of the big schools do the same exact thing. You mean to tell me that teams like Pittsburgh and Baltimore don't do something similar to this? Let's get real, here. The Saints got in trouble because they LIED and Godell took it personal, plain and simple. You think it's fair that Bill Belichick stole other teams play calls and filmed their practices and got a slap on the wrist?

I'm not sure you understand what hypoctritical is. Lying and trying to injure players is NOT OK, nor does the NFL condone that. If the NFL lies and supports trying to injure player's then they are NOT being hypocrits. This is clearly not the case. FWIW, many people thought the Patriots were penalized way too heavily for Spygate.
You are so far off base on the SMU case it isn't even worth responding to that one.

Suspending 3 coaches, a Gm, taking 2 draft pics and over 10 million dollars in fines for this scandal all in the name of "integrity of the league". After a couple of fines and no suspensions for actually breaking the rules and cheating the game itself. Thats hypocrisy at its finest.

Last time I checked, hitting hard is legal and within the rules. Lying and deliberately trying to injure players is not.

Jesus get over it. You think 10+ million in fines, 2 drafts picks and a Gm suspension is a justifiable penalty for snubbing the NFL.

Have you ever listened to any former or current defensive player talk. They all say when they hit they hit as hard as they can. If the guy gets injured on a clean hit so be it. Like I stated earlier show me a person that got carted off or injured on a hit that drew a flag. Go on fricking do it.

I bet you were a huge supporter of Nick Farely. That fig is the definition of a dirty player. If the Saints get this then him and Soo should be kicked out of the league.

Laugh my arse off. I dealt with this FIVE YEARS AGO. I have never said what my team did was right, and I have never said my team shouldn't have been punished.

I took whatever ownership a fan should have taken quite a long time ago. I am not flaming in any way shape or form, but its hilarious that people keep bringing up something that happened over four years ago.

A fine is something paid to the NFL as a punishment, that 7 million dollars is still in the Saint's hands, they just can't use it to pay Payton... therefore its NOT a fine.

Maybe. But if you deliberately break the rules and thus are prevented from working, your loss in salary is because you are not doing your job (as a result of your own bad acts) not because you were fined.

The big problem I see with this PDF file is that it is one side of the investigation(Roger Goodell and his staff). I'll wait to see what comes out in the next few weeks. I will not base my opinion on Roger Goodell's information when I can see he has his own agenda with certain issues.

Reading that, I cannot understand why any Saints fan would be mad at the NFL Commissioner. Any coach who both knew about the system in place under Williams and Payton, and then possibly participated in blocking the investigation, should not be allowed to coach in the NFL for a long time, if ever again. Learning even more, I feel sick that I cheered for a group of thug coaches who encouraged their players to injure the opposition.

Mr. Benson, clean house.

Good Lord, man. How about it was because they had 12 men on the field which got them out of FG range and Favre forced the pass downfield? In the words of Joe Buck, "Favre SPRINTS to his right and throws back across the middle, and he's intercepted."

Yup, sure couldn't run there.

As far as the whole NFL not condoning illegal hits and lying, I think other posters here made my point on that even though I had already said in my previous post that it was the fact that the Saints staff lied about the bounties which got them such harsh penalties.

And the point I was trying to make about the SMU scandal is that no matter what the league does to "set an example," that doesn't mean that this incident will completely stop with other teams in the future. Just ask the University of Miami one year ago.
