I think it is possible that there is some sort of a quiet storm brewing. Whatever Payton said to him on the sidelines at the Browns game, that was certainly real and not just chit chat or friendly coaching camaraderie.

I get the impression from Payton in his recent press conferences of a person who wants to talk, but who can't really say anything. Who measures his words, he seems so tightly zipped up all the time, like he is being careful not to let anything slip or say anything too informative. Which sometimes comes off like he's disinterested, or passive, kind of flippant, arrogant, all the common things that people say about him. But maybe it's more like, he's very tightly wound up about something on the inside, that we can't see. But one little slip or gaffe or classic Payton glib sarcastic phrase, could set off a landmine in the press, and mess up the team's season. So he keeps it really tight at the podium.

I disagree. I love Robby Ry and I think he's doing the best he can with what little he's got.

I mean, seriously...think about who we are rolling out as DBs each week this season...

It was this, but this is only a piece of it:

That part where Payton stops gesturing, after pointing at himself, starts to walk away, and then comes back and points at Ryan one last time.... To me that's gotta be something. It definitely wasn't your ordinary friendly collegial coaching discussion about the X's and O's. This was moments before the pass defense imploded on that last drive in the Browns game.

Scale of 1-10, I'd say about 3.

Bring back 3G though. Gregg is here in 2015=championship

#1 problem is bad drafting, and that has been a problem here the entire time. We got lucky in some undrafted guys and some late rounders, but when you miss frequently in the first few rounds it eventually bites you in the arse.
2008 Rd 1 Sedrik Ellis no 3 Rd pick
2009 no 2 or 3 Rd picks
2010 Rd 1 PRob
2011 Rd 3 Martez Wilson
2012 no 1 or 2 Rd pick
2014 Rd 2 SJB
This doesn't include questionable picks, this list just includes undeniable bad picks. Look how much we talent we don't get in early rounds, it's disgusting.

.02% chance.
Only way he goes is if he gets a head coach offer.
His turn around last year was reason enough. He does not have the personnel. I do get there has been bad defensive packages, but we have some crap defensive players. This is the downside of the big Offensive player contracts./

I'm not willing to blame the performance of the defense on the coach. Schematically, it's been fine since the first few weeks.

Agree totally. I think the defense vs. ATL was almost entirely the fault of the gameplan.

If you wanna look a little bit deeper, you should be furious with the GM and HC who have drafted poorly at the CB position

Absolutely. If it wasn't for the solid move with Keenan Lewis in FA, we would be even worse than this. Frightening.

signed bad free agent LBs

This I don't entirely agree with. Lofton has been a solid player, but I don't think he'll ever be as good as Vilma was for us. Hawthorne and Victor Butler were huge disappointments though. .

There's just not enough talent on that side of the ball to be successful, and that falls on your HC and GM, plain and simple.

I agree. You can't squeeze juice out of turnip, but it appears like they keep trying.

Whoever destroyed our salary cap for Jamarius Byrd needs to go. Whoever got rid of Darren Sproles and Malcolm Jenkins needs to go. Whoever decided to not trade down to get more defensive picks needs to go. Whoever thought we were ok with the cornerbacks we have needs to go. In other words, there is a lot of blame to go around. Rob Ryan alone is definitely not the problem.

I'm still convinced a major issue of this team is on position coaches.

I feel the same way. Joe Vitt and whoever coaches this putrid secondary need to be shown the door.

no, the excuse of all the leadership on defense was released this year will buy him another year......

The real problem is that this team has only showed up in prime time this year(Except Dallas), the rest of the games they have not played with any desire to win.....
