LINK I'm glad we don't have this problem. Complete shite show & one of the worst problems to have.

The Oakland Raiders may not be allowing a camera inside the war room during the NFL Draft, but that apparently isn't the only move they are making to avoid leaks.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock just did something unprecedented by sending all of the scouts home for the weekend. They aren't expected back in the building before the draft. According to Rapoport, the belief is that the pair don't know who they can trust, so they wanted to clear the room.

While the actual reasons behind sending every single scout home for the weekend and possibly until next week aren't actually known at this time, the move is not a good look for the second-year coach and the first-time GM. This makes it appear that they don't have control over the room and that they are well aware that one of the employees will be willingly leaking information about upcoming picks. Was the move made because the Raiders are ready to draft a young quarterback but don't want the information leaking to the media?

Mayock already had enough pressure on him heading into the draft due to it being his first time making selections, but now his job just became exponentially more difficult. If anything goes wrong during the draft or with one of the eight picks, this incident will immediately be viewed as one of the reasons. Whether that is accurate or not will become less important.

Moreso, this move goes against what the Raiders GM said last week when he met with the media to preview the upcoming draft and answer questions about the local pro day. Mayock mentioned how he was working with the coaching staff and the scouts pretty much 24 hours a day and seven days a week to get the draft board finalized and everything squared away for the big event. He made it seem like the situation was quite harmonious.

“Basically, we’re in the middle of a grind," Mayock said during his pre-draft press conference. "It’s kind of cool. Coaches, scouts, we’re all working pretty much 24/7 on this draft. It’s a great process, the scouts are in now. I’m working with the scouts on the draft, the coaches with Coach Gruden. I’m jumping between rooms. It’s really been awesome, been a great process especially with what we’ve got with eight picks and four of the first 35."

At this point, it's unknown if there is actual dysfunction in the Raiders building, but Rapoport's report paints a troubling picture. There also won't be any answers provided in the short term considering that media members aren't allowed in the facility until the first round of the draft has concluded. At that point, the questions will more likely revolve around the different selections that were made in the first round instead of the mysterious week off from work during the busiest time of the year. Although it will likely come up if no answer is provided before Thursday.

Alot of people saying this is pretty normal once the board is set.

Not due to lack of trust though. Not really sure what's going on over there, but hopefully it doesn't work out for them.

I like the Raiders more when they're in the doldrums.

lets be honest here, all their work is done and thr draft boards are set so all they will be doing any way is getting drunk on company time.

any last minute out of left field options would be guys they dont have on the radar and would purely be making wild guesses about any way.

it sounds more like the scouts thought they get to run the show and grueden is just letting them know they arent that important and putting them back in an attitude adjustment check

s others have pointed out most of the work is basically done, if not all as the draft is only a few days away. At this point, all they could do is start second guessing their order. But, to play along...

Mayock spent the last several years working on gaining connections with all of the organizations in order to get the inside scoop around draft time. Is there any surprise that he would be suspicious of someone from his staff having connections with other people in the media?

Mayock was the only tv draft analyst I gave a frick about. He'll be missed. Nfl network was dealt a huge blow with him leaving.

I always liked Mayock as well. Kiper memorized numbers, but Mayock gave much better analysis.

Sounds like Gruden and Mayock spreading some pre draft non sense for a set up of info later. This is a nothingburger.

Dont forget who the guy in charge is ! Betting the entire staff is g-o-n-e. Obviously did not back up or support Gruden’s opinion. It’s his show, for better or worse. In the long run, I bet on the former :-)

It's not out of the ordinary for new GMs to clean house in the scouting department.

Sounds smart to me. Get all of the info from the scouts grinding for weeks and then send them home once you’ve got all the info. Mayock is an awesome evaluator.

I would fear the Raiders based on what I expect him to do in drafts. This draft is huge for the Raiders. If they nail this draft, they are in a great position to have a young cheap core for several years.
