Nick Shook
Around The NFL Writer NFL.com

Derek Carr
New Orleans Saints · Year 11
Rank #20
quote:

Dennis Allen managed to hang onto his job, but the pressure is on for everyone this season, and Carr no longer has room for error.

I'm hoping he doesn't spend half of the season ignoring Chris Olave (as he did in 2023), but I'm also not foolish enough to believe an offseason cured the Saints of their ills.

Carr is sandwiched between:

Geno Smith
Seattle Seahawks · Year 12 at #19 and;

Anthony Richardson
Indianapolis Colts · Year 2 at #21.

I feel Carr could throw for 5000 yards 40 tds and 0 int and you all would still complain about him.
Is he perfect? No
Is he ideal? Not really
But he isn’t as bad as this board try’s to make him out to be.
Excitement in this board may not be popular, but I’m excited to see what he does with our new offensive coordinator.
I think we have a solid shot at the wild card.

I feel like they forced it to Olave at times, so not sure where that criticism comes from.

When using an alter, try starting off your second consecutive post with alternative verbiage.

Given his history, it may take him half a season to pick up the offense.

Only because our division is still the worst in the NFL

bullshite, winning cures everything
12-5 and everyone will love him.
His problem is he's goofy, quirky, and very average.
Jameis was the same, but extremely likable, Carr is the opposite.

Your reasoning is that two posters who have very different posting habits are alts? The older account and presumptive original has 773 posts in 17 years, 45/year while the newer account alt has 188 posts in 1 year. That surely does not seem like the making of an alt account.

Carr's biggest issue is not the amount of yards, it is in fact the TDs, you know what you need to win games.
He is the absolute worst in the red zone and stats back that claim up. It's always been his biggest problem and kind of an important one

I posted this last year i think after the GB game, Saints loss by one:
The one thing that stood out to me was that he missed Thomas in the back of the zone running an out at the end of the half. He tried to force it to Olave on 3rd down . He was looking at that side of the field and had hi/lo out routes. He should've seen Thomas wide open for the TD. This is where I keep seeing an issue. At this level, no way he should've missed Thomas while looking in that direction.
Not saying he played bad. That's just the one negative play that really stood out to me as something a NFL qb can see.

138 targets last year - 13th most in the league. 63% completion rate to him.

Feel like we featured him plenty

Ok white knight. You saved the two damsels in distress.

At least you didn’t start your response with “I feel Carr” and “I feel like” when you replied.

The biggest issue with Carr is you know that he won't win you jack shite. There is no point defending it. As long as he's here at the very very very best and being as lucky as possible you lose by 10 points in the wild card round away somewhere.

Problem with Jameis is that he was blessed with a million dollar arm but a nickel brain. He’ll make throws few people can make but then throw into quadruple coverage the next play. Or just make some other stupid throw that a hs qb wouldn’t try. It’s very infuriating.

Jameis is a backup. He was payed like a backup and he played like a backup. Why do we continue to compare him to our $150 million dollar QB?

Oh thats right because they are the same caliber player and give you the same results.

I this offense would cook with Rattler. He can make the throws Carr cannot.

If Carr was remotely likable it would change things.

He's such a fricking tool.
