The NFL docked the Atlanta Falcons a 2025 fifth-round pick for violating the league's anti-tampering policy with Kirk Cousins, Darnell Mooney and Charlie Woerner, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Thursday, per sources.

The league also fined the Falcons $250,000 and general manager Terry Fontenot $50,000, Pelissero reported.

Pelissero added that the violations are considered logistical/administrative, such as making travel arrangements after players agreed to terms, and did not involve contact prior to the negotiating window ahead of free agency, per sources.

quote:

"We are pleased the review is complete," the Falcons said in a statement on Thursday. "We cooperated fully with the league and its review, and appreciate the NFL's thoroughness. As we do with every process, we will review how we operate and look for ways to improve."

A 5th round pick is worth the cost of tampering when going for certain positions like a QB

Saints would have had their entire 25’ draft taken away.

Didn't they get a 3rd round pick for hiring Terry Fontenot? The irony.

Lol so Brady is worth a first rounder but lowly Kirk Cousins is only good for a 5th rounder.

It's a compromise sentence. There is a lot of evidence to suggest the Falcons MAY have tampered to get Cousins. But the NFL didn't want to levy an extreme punishment because they still have doubts ANYONE would actually tamper to get Cousins.

Not true. Remember they found a picture of dog the bounty hunter on one of their computers. That was all the proof ole Rog needed.

Don’t forget we also lost two second round picks for hard legal hits….

Mr. Goodell is now and for a long time has been very fond of Mr. Blank and wants to help Mr. Blank in any reasonable way possible.

Mr. Goodell would like to see Mr. Blank hoist a Lombardi Trophy very soon. That's why there was no real punishment for this infraction.
