I am starting to think our slow starts may be somewhat strategic in that Moore is doing very little to change. I think he is a guy who needs to have a feel for what the defense is doing, and he might be sacrificing the first quarter to his script. Stretching back to last year with Shough, he seems to go from nothing works to moving down the field with ease. I am starting to think he does not value starting fast but values collecting information.

It definitely is interesting. In both the Detroit and Ravens games it’s kind of felt like we were getting our butts kicked and then all of a sudden we were only down a score at the half.

I agree, but I think he will improve on initial gameplans. 2nd year head coach that came to a team with quite a few holes on the roster.

You seriously believe a coach is intentionally falling behind in points? Please correct me if I am misinterpreting what you are saying, because if I am not then this is fundamentally retarded.

You can be calculated with your complexity and counters on alignments being seen

I didn't say that. I think he has a script that he follows to determine what the D is doing. Our offense always comes out vanilla. I don't think he values a quick start nearly as much as the fans. I am sure he would rather score TDs early, but he doesn't seem too concerned when we don't.

The wording is a bit weird there but Underhill has alluded to this as well. Most teams script 10-15 of their best plays to try to build an early lead, and usually when those fail a team finds it very hard to come back.

With Moore, it seems he is more prodding the defense to see what they are running before making the 2nd qtr/halftime adjustments to counter what they are seeing. Then we hit them with our best counter plays to what is being run, and keep adapting from there.

And this is a trait Moore has shown for a long time. His teams seem to always start slow on offense before eventually exploding for points once he has it figured out.

So not necessarily sacrificing the first qtr, but using it differently than how most teams do. We'd still love to score early if we can, but the focus seems to be info gathering more than anything.

Ok, good. I was worried there for a second.

While I am on board with trying to figure out your opponents, that is what studying game tape ahead of time is for. I'm not sure I buy this is fully Moore's plan, but I can see it being part of it. IF he does not value getting points early, then he needs to change that mindset. You can't keep playing from behind.

I think we saw it and heard about it in the Lions game. Shough said the Lions were using unscouted looks that they had trouble identifying and countering. Once they figured it out, we had no issues moving against the Lions.

Watching game tape does not necessarily tell you how they plan on defending you.

You see lineups and tendencies on certain down and distances. Game time you throw things out there and see how they look to defend you and then adjust accordingly knowing their tendencies. At that point you start running your best plays knowing how they will defend.

If that is his philosophy I’m not against it, but need to have a defense that can keep the game within reach.

My guess is that he's trying to score on every possession and have zero punts.

You can’t spot teams 2-3 scores in the playoffs… maybe fun for the regular season but then what?
