All he did was take a fat shite on his legacy.
Mmmmm........ many 1 SB winning Coaches in SB history...not sure how much you can say "legacy"... when referring to him like that. He's been a great coach, just terrible luck with Brees and terrible timing with his scandals through the years.
Stayed a few years too long in NOLA.
As soon as the PI incident vs the Rams occurred there was no recovering from that. The environment for every single play in the Dome whether it was a penalty or not, it was all mental after that.
He'll be in Denver for awhile....and he'll get it in the right direction. Only has been in Denver a couple of months, the social media era wants winners overnight. Not happening. He'll get there though.

I don't blame anyone for leaving New Orleans.

Yeah he should’ve rotted away in New Orleans lol . I think it was bigger than football. You leave your car for 5 minutes in New Orleans you more than likely will have a busted window
I don't think anyone disputes that crime in NOLA is out of control. And most on here living in the NOLA Area would jump at an opportunity to move to Colorado; but I actually do not buy this take.
I don't recall where he lived when he left, but I am pretty sure he lived in Destrehan when he took the job before moving to the northshore and the new wifey was in JP (Metairie?). A lot of the Saints players live in JP & St. Charles parish, they spend most of their time in Metairie at the facility, and they take a team bus to the stadium. So, the day-to-day crime in NOLA would have very little impact on their lives.

I don't think anyone is mad at him for leaving (I know Im not), the "retirement" then coming back, etc. etc. is where the angst is coming from. If he had left / been traded and the Saints compensated, feelings might be different.

We could have traded him for draft picks
We DID trade him for draft picks. Maybe didn’t get as much as we should have, but we did in fact trade Payton and a 3rd round pick for a late first round pick last year and a 2nd round pick (which figures to be right at the beginning of the 2nd round) next year.

quote:So what if he’s the “highest paid coach” in the league? That doesn’t mean he made a smart move. He got stuck with a bunch of scrubs and a huge bill for Wilson, who’s not exactly lighting it up. He’s got about as much chance of making that team a contender as I do of winning the lottery. He probably thought he was doing what’s best for him and his family, but come on, calling it a “good business decision” after getting blown out by the worst margin in NFL in the last 60 years, is hilarious! He better start turning things around fast, or he’ll be out of a job before his contract ends. Sure, he might not have gotten 18 mil a year here, but look at what he had: a much better roster (just a few pieces away), one of the easier paths to the Super Bowl, an owner who loved him, in a city that lives and breathes football, where he was treated like a rock star. You’d be hard pressed to find another organization that checks all those boxes. But hey, let’s agree to disagree.
He's also the second highest paid coach not only in the NFL but in all of sports behind Bill Belichick. You can say what you want about him or his decision personally, but it actually was a pretty good decision in terms of business.

What irks me about the Payton burnout story is that you never hear a peep out of the other coaches who have been with their franchises for 10+ years. Belichick, Tomlin, Harbaugh and Carroll never took a fricking year off because they were burnt out.
Payton showed he is mentally weak pussy.

Payton was a moron for leaving here, may have not been what he dreamed of but it was his dream job. He had a defense and good coaching staff. All he needed to do was get us a qb but instead he chose the path he did. Sometimes what you wish for isn’t what’s best for you

Pretty easy to follow the thread. I dont know the details of everything but unless I am mistaken, SP took a slightly underhanded route out of New Orleans, which is why people are upset with him.

Does this thread really matter? We blew a 17 point lead, our qbs health is a major issue, our head coach makes baffling decisions, our OC has horrible play calling and we have no oline. I could care less about Sean Payton and denver.

Probably not, but the title specifically referenced Sean Payton so.....

He could have lived like a king in a penthouse at the Ritz Carlton with bodyguards, while taking a helicopter to work, then chartering flight to Highland Park on his days off.

Don’t peoples cars get jacked when they go to a game? Lol you’re acting like Sean Payton was Gayle Benson.

You said "If he had left / been traded and the Saints compensated, feelings might be different." We DID trade him for draft picks and get compensation. So again, what the hell are you talking about?

Agree except for the fact that the worse Denver does the better our second round draft pick is. So I care at least a little how bad Denver performs. But not as much as the other things you mentioned.

when you say he doesnt have the freedom...Do you mean drugs and swamp pussy?
Posted on 9/26/23 at 10:26 am to LSUgrad88
The whole thread is talking about CSP and how fans are pissed, and you want to mince words? If you think Sean Payton did nothing wrong, fine, I ( and a lot of others it seems) appreciate his time here but feel like he could have done things differently.

Payton leaving was a good thing. Now if we could get rid of the idiot that replaced him we'd be on the right path.
