Looks like we are really serious about Dorsett fellas.....

quote:

Yesterday, it was reported by WalterFootball.com per draftinsider.com’s Tony Pauline, that the Saints were gushing as much as a teenage schoolgirl’s crush over Miami Hurricanes WR Phillip Dorsett; the speedy play-maker who blew away all of those in attendance when he ran a blazing 4.24 40 yard dash.

Pauline reported that not only did the Saints treat Dorsett to dinner the night before at a posh Miami restaurant and scheduled a future visit with him later this month in New Orleans, but also that “Sean Payton and Jeff Ireland were on the sidelines gushing over Dorsett and talked about what a great fit the receiver would be for their offense.”

What round would Dorsett go in? Third I'm guessing or did his Pro Day possibly move him into the second?

He's a fringe first rounder to mid-second guy. So at minimum we'd probably have to spend pick 44 on him. I'd rather take guys like DGB, Agholor or Perriman there.

I'm with you, I really don't think he is someone we would draft.

If he's at 44 that's tremendous value. He's a top 15 talent that fell into the mid-second at that point. I think in that case you take your chance with the CC, and see if you get a baller out of it. Worst case scenario it was your 3rd player drafted so it's not like we're taking him with our first. You're probably the same person that would have been tired of hearing about drafting Moss or Dez too.

SBNation has him as the 14th ranked WR

quote:

14. Phillip Dorsett | 5’10, 195 pounds | WR | Miami

LINK

CBS has him as him as the 13th ranked WR and 81 over all:

quote:

81 Phillip Dorsett WR 13 Miami (Fla.) Sr 5-10 185 2-3

LINK

NFL.com has him as the number 6 ranked WR:

LINK

Walters has him ranked as the 6th WR:

quote:

Philip Dorsett, WR, Miami Height: 5-9. Weight: 185. 40 Time: 4.33. Projected Round (2015): 1-2. 3/14/15: Sources say that Dorsett could be a steal on the second day of the 2015 NFL Draft. They believe he has elite speed and will be a vertical weapon in the NFL. As a prospect, Dorsett is said to have a similar skill set to Mike Wallace, but Dorsett is more polished as a route-runner than Wallace was coming out of Ole Miss in 2009. At the Combine, Dorsett put his elite speed on display. He could be tremendous play-maker in the NFL. Dorsett was one of the stars of the Senior Bowl as he dominated in practice. He was constantly getting separation with his elite speed and route-running. Dorsett looks like a big-play threat, but also does well in the short part of the field because of how sudden he is in and out of his breaks. Entering the Senior Bowl, Dorsett had gone under the radar, but performed really well as a senior. Miami was playing a freshman quarterback in 2014 and leaned on running back Duke Johnson, thus Dorsett didn't get many targets and had only 36 receptions on the season. However, Dorsett showed his talent by averaging 24 yards per reception for 871 yards and 10 touchdowns. A knee injury took away a chunk of his junior year, but as a sophomore, he had 58 catches for 842 yards and four touchdowns.

So hes somewhere in between 6 and 14.

the only thing that makes me suspicious about this is that Payton has always been positively Belichik-esque when it comes to two things... injury reports, and draft intentions. Hard to imagine him being this obvious about someone he legitimately plans to draft. But who the hell knows.

Last year:

He let something slip pre draft about they met with someone that could really improve our offense or something like that after the combine, and with whatever he said you could tell he was talking about Cooks. Anyway I cant find it.

quote:

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis knew they wanted Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks. So they had no problem dealing their 2014 third-round pick (No. 91 overall) to the Arizona Cardinals to move up from No. 27 to No. 20 to grab him. Cooks was one of three players the Saints were targeting before the Cardinals came on the clock in the first round Thursday night. As the highest player left on the Saints' board, he was the only one they were willing to move up to get. "He was the one remaining player in that group that was someone we identified that we might trade up to get if we felt it was necessary," Payton said.

As an ACC fan I was never overly impressed with Dorsett. The only thing that mattered on Miami's team since he's been there is Johnson.

Plenty of guys have had better pro careers, but I'm not overly high on him.

Found this.....

quote:

Anytime you hear information leak that the Saints met with a player, make a mental note. It doesn’t mean they’ll draft the guy, but they’re clearly interested. Last year not only did the Saints meet with Brandin Cooks, Sean Payton was in a much more divulging space than usual. I remember Payton admitting in an interview with the media that they met with a high character receiver that they really liked. Paraphrasing here, they imagined what he would look like in a Saints uniform and how well he’d fit in the locker room merely from the interview. At the time I suspected that person was Cooks. I doubt Payton will give a nugget that juicy to the media this year, but based on the guys they interview you’ll know what position and possibly which prospects they are looking for.

First time I've seen that blog, but:

quote:

Subterfuge. In the dictionary, the word subterfuge is defined as “deception by purposeful strategy in order to conceal, escape, or evade.” In plain English, it means making people believe one thing, when your real plan is to do something completely the opposite —- something that no one saw coming. It’s something that just about every NFL team engages in this time of year, especially if they think it will help them in the long run by making teams make moves based on what they THINK another team is gong to do.

I definitely can tell you that NOBODY does it nearly as well as the New Orleans Saints.

How could a local, amateur blogger definitely tell you that NOBODY does something as well as another team? Makes me kind of turned off to their writing/opinions. Just my .02.
