Meanwhile it predicted failure for Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, David Carr, Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell.

Paxton Lynch scored a 18 on his Wonderlic.

The only QB it predicted a lack of NFL success (and was wrong) in the last several years was Cam Newton. It did, however, predict success for Ponder, Bradford and Weeden.

Knowing it has been more right than wrong, I hope we pass on Lynch in the 1st.

And Cam had a 21. So it's not like he completely bombed it like lynch.

For a QB, that has to fully digest an NFL playbook and make quick (and correct) decisions on the field, yes it is.

If you go back 40 years, you will successful NFL QBs that didn't meet those metrics, sure.

at Bradshaw scoring higher than Marino.

I still like this measure for a QB. It looks at intelligence, accuracy, and experience. While there are all kinds of variables that determines whether a player is successful (especially a QB), having these three qualities goes a long way.

NFL playbooks (offense and defense) were not as complicated 30+ years ago as they are today, so maybe crappy Wonderlic scores in the 70's and early 80's were not that big of an issue.

Although it is not much better, he scored an 18.

Sorry.. I'll update.

List of wonderlic scores leaked:

quote:

Carson Wentz 40
Jared Goff 34
Paxton Lynch 18
Connor Cook 25
Christian Hackenberg 24
Dak Prescott 25
Jacoby Brissett 24
Kevin Hogan 38
Jeff Driskell 29
Cardale Jones 25
Nate Sudfeld 28
Josh Woodrum 32

I'll pass on Lynch and take Hogan later.. Dude was a career 66% passer, started 3+ years and hit the metric on the Wonderlic.

Also, those guys probably took the test after an all-night booze fest, and it was the first time they had ever seen the format of the test.

These guys now pay tutors to train them for the wonderlic

Well there's no doubt Ryan was a successful draft pick. He might not be a hall of famer but he's going to an above average NFL starter for double digit years.

Schaub is more questionable but from 2008-2012 he averaged 4,000 yards per 16 games and never had a QBR below 90 for the season. Then he got the yips or whatever but still. 5 years of above average production is a successful career IMO
