Messing around with Spotrac and overthecap

And the best option for the Saints cap wise is to restructure Carr, post June cut Cam Jordan and come to injury/retirement settlements with Ram and Taysom.
Restructure Ruiz and Granderson and we should be 16 million under the cap.
Not sure how accurate those site are.

Gut the roster, rebuild will take 2 yrs.

From what I've read, we can't cut our way under the cap

Not cutting.
Restructuring and retiring
Cam was the only cut

Yeah, I followed. I was responding to load about gutting roster

Cam will retire as a Saint when he wants. We won’t cut him.
We just need to nail draft picks, develop young talent and build around a young core like Fuaga and Breese.

Would definitely help more if Cam retires this season.
I think I’d like to see them offer Chase Young a decent contract to stay. Not overpaying him and I don’t think anyone will pay him like a #2 pick. He just isn’t going to be a 10+ sack per season guy but he can be a solid starter. And he’s young. I just don’t see him returning us more than a 6th maybe 5th round pick if he leaves in FA and IMO you wouldn’t get a better player than him at that spot.

I think Cam may decide to hang it up. It's obvious he's not the same player he once was. Sucks though, gonna miss that dude.

Cam doesn't seem the type to fake it. I think he retires too.

Yes. But we won’t cut him.

Gross! That guy sucks. I want us to draft one of the top DEs with our 1st pick. We need to find a way to put pressure on QBs.

Maybe best solution is releasing old players total of 60 mil dead money until situation is fixed. Until cap is fixed, roster will not have next group of young core players.

Not saying the site is accurate, but PFF has Chase as 9th in NFL in total pressures.
If he is constantly pressuring the QB, what are the other defenders on the Saints doing on those plays?

Can somebody break down the remainder of his current contract versus what a restructure would like?
--What is guaranteed each remaining year?
--What is cap hit each remaining year?
--I understand nobody likes paying dead money to a player no longer on the roster, but what is the difference of his cap # keeping him at current contract versus cutting him? Is he one where post June 1st cut helps out cap more than an outright cut before then?
--What could a restructure realistically look like?
I don't think Carr is part of the solution to our current roster & cap situation so I'd strongly considering ripping off the bandaid depending on the exact cap implications so that we stop kicking the can down the road. $51M & $61M cap hits for 2025 & 2026 are already spent, and he's proven he's not going to win. 11 seasons, 2 playoff births, but he was injured in week 16 the first time and could not play in the playoff game, and the second time he did play but lost, so 0-1 in playoff appearances.
For my money I start Rattler the remaining 3 games and if he continues to build off the Commanders game and shows promise then I'd lean to cutting bait with Carr after this season. Unless it's a significant difference to extend him and/or add more void years or spread $ more evenly adding more $ to existing void years, then Okay maybe. But I also don't want to do that with Carr, plus others like we always do.
Per Spotrac
***Potential Out: 2025, 2yr $60M, $50M dead cap
Base / Cap Hit / Signing / Restru-Prorate / Roster bonus
2025: $30M / $51.4M / $5.7M / $5.758 / $10M
2026: $40M / $61.4M / $5.7M / $5.758 / $10M
2027: Void / $17.2M / $5.7M / $5.758
2028: Void / $5.7M / $5.758M
2029: Void
Contract Notes:
--$60M guaranteed at signing (sign bonus + 2023 salary + 2024 salary)
--2025 Roster Bonus: $10M (fully guarantees 3/15/2024, paid 5th league day of 2025 injury guaranteed at signing)
--$30M 2025 salary fully guarantees the 3rd league day of 2025 (injury guaranteed at signing)
--2026 Roster Bonus: $10M (5th league day of 2026)
--Full No Trade Clause
--2027-2029 years automatically void the last day of the 2026 league year

You trust this group after Turner and Davenport?

Chase Young is in the top 10 for Pressure percentage at 17%.
But yeah, he sucks.
Our fan base ladies and gents.

The way I understand it restructuring Carr gives the Saints the most cap relief and they are currently 60+ million over. Cutting him post June doesn't give nearly the cap saving that a restructure would and there just aren't many other contract that can do what this can for the cap.
The only other reasonable option is for Carr to do the team a favor and take a pay cut then cut him but, would you take a pay cut so it's more beneficial for your employer to fire you?
IMO Carr contract will be on of those bad contracts that you have to pay into 27 and 28 just to help teh cap situation. but iirc if done right and Loomis is prevented from continuing the "win now" mold, Carr's contract may be the last of the albatros contracts to push out

If we owed say 60 mil to Carr could we trade him to a qb needing team we eat say 40 and the other team eats 20? New contract or not. Or something similar?
