McCray says he'll win starting job

“My mindset is I’m going into training camp and I’m taking somebody’s position. It’s going to happen.”

He doesn’t lack for confidence, and it’s been partly inspired by the addition of new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who has a track record of leading aggressive, swarming and ultimately successful units. Williams helped another pass rusher from Florida improve his game when he worked with Jevon Kearse while serving as D-coordinator for the Titans from 1999-2000.
Smith and Grant better look out.

McCray likes Saints’ new approach under Williams
quote:
As the final OTAs come to a close, the Saints have received an opportunity to get to know their new defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, and DE Bobby McCray likes the style Williams has brought with him.
“We’re not going to lay down in the fourth quarter. We’re not going to play prevent when we’re ahead. We’re going to pick up every ball in practice,” McCray said, describing the club’s new approach. “… Just that kick-arse mentality. We’re coming at you. You know we’re coming at you. What are you gonna do about it?”
Landing Williams, who came to New Orleans after a disappointing one-year stint with the Jaguars, was one of the Saints’ marquee offseason moves. Expectations are high for a defense that faltered over the past two seasons, which ultimately cost the former coordinator, Gary Gibbs, his job. Although the Jaguars, who ranked 17th in defense last season, failed to live up to expectations under Williams, McCray said that isn’t a concern for him and his teammates.
“That was not his defense (in Jacksonville),” McCray said. “There’s always a boss man that you have to abide by. Whatever he calls you gotta run it, or you’ll lose your job. The whole time he was there, he doesn’t even talk about it. He doesn’t need to bring it up. We know what he can do. That was (head coach Jack Del Rio’s) defense. But at the same time, when it wasn’t going right, (Del Rio) had to point the finger at somebody. The only thing we can get from it is a great defensive coordinator left the team. (Williams) wasn’t able to run his own defense.”

McCray is primed for a breakout year under Williams, he's the versatile type of guy Williams loves to have on his defense.

Williams will use McCray like he did Kearse when the Freak put up his biggest numbers, blee dat.

McCray is actually built like Kearse, people may say it's a stretch but McCray has put up a 10+ sack season in a less agressive system. No reason he can't put up an even better total and become an elite pass rusher with Williams.

I love the attitude he has, and I think he's probably right. With the other two out for four, he'll hopefully prove he's the better pass rusher of the three.
I still don't know why we paid Grant/Smith all that money. Not that they're bad, but they are the same style player. Neither is a fast/quick pass rusher. Both have great power and can stop the run well and pass rush on occassion, but we need a DE who can get after the QB every down. I think McCray can be that guy.

I hope he comes out on the field with the same intensity that he talks to reporters with.

Dude is a freak. His build is sick and I think he breaks out. One of two things will happen.
1. McCray flat out takes Grants starting job
2. Grant is pushed by McCray to get in shape and play to his potential.
McCray will use the 4 games to his advantage to play lights out and kill opposing QBs. If anything, Grant will be pushed inside on passing downs, or just play the run.

This isn't the first time that Bobby has been talking like this.
I'm taking somebody's job bitches...
ETA: Sorry Meat, I just didn't want to throw out the "Germans" thing like that.

I was gonna chime in what a good post it is myself. Sometimes the Saintardedness wears ya down around here. Something with some actual thought and composition is refreshing. It's on my list to stop in and meet Meateye sometime when headed that way. Alexandria Meat?
My dream scenario that McCray amps it up during those first 4 games. Grant either realizes he has to as well or his contract could be jeopardy. If he does we have an abundance of riches then.

I think you will see him hold that starting job. Once the 4 games are up, we will see Smith and McCray as the two DE's with Grant mixing it up at DT and DE. Grant just doesn't have the attitude and work ethic necessary to be a starter, and McCray is a man with determination and heart. That is what we need on defense

Plus he's one mean looking SOB with that tinted shield on his helmet!

I'm a LSU fan but I like him keeping his alma mater cred on big plays too. Would be cool to see some You Can't See Me TD's translate into the NFL too.

Sad that $60 million didn't do that.
If I was a GM, every contract I ever drew up would have stipulations in it.
