T’was the Night Before Kick-Off


T’was the night before "Kick off" and all through the Chateau
Not a creature was stirring not even Lee Corso
Now the jerseys were hung in the lockers with care,
In hopes that the Tigers soon would be there.
The students were nestled all snug in the beds,
While visions of whiskey drinks danced in their heads.

Mama in her jersey and I in my new tiger hat
Had just settled in for a pre tailgate nap,
When out on the Indian Mounds there arose such a clatter,
I knew in a moment "must be that Mad Hatter"
Away from my bed I flew like a flash,
Like ole Devery did on that 93 Berlin Dash.....
When what to wondering eyes did appear
But a High Hatted coach and 8 tiger reindeer.
With a lively old coach so fast with the wit,
I knew in a minute that sure aint LIL Nick.

More rapid than Tigers, Miles players they came
As he clapped and he shouted and called them by name
Now Fournette, now Dupre, now Guice and Harris,
On Kendall , on Debo, on Jamal and Paris!

And then in a twinkling I heard beautiful sound,
It’s the golden band from Tigerland I said turning around
As they played the fight song coach miles ran down,
And out of the tunnel he came with a bound.
His hat was bright white, like the shoes on his feet,
He smiled at the 100,000 + he was ready to meet.
He had a bundle of Tigers around of his back,
And they looked well trained and ready to attack!

His eyes were all wide and lost in his thoughts
He knew it wouldn’t be easy the game would be hard fought
His little sly smile broke out on his face,
The fans the all roared he thought I love this place.

a pinch of the grass he took in his mouth,
He savored the flavor as he looked all about
In the face of the Tigers you could tell they were ready
But he held them back saying Steady Steady

All the Tigers were ready to prove their true might,
As the tiger faithful cheered FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Onto the field the Fighting Tigers he led!

Pass after Pass they completed with haste,
He thought to himself this first games just a taste,
Touchdown after touchdown they scored them in droves,
And the points on the new scoreboard steadily they rose.

He sprang from the sideline and gave his team a whistle,
Down the sideline they ran as fast as a missile,
And I heard them all sing so strong and so true,
