I’m sure it’s been discussed, but I assume the Saints never had a chance to get him?

Not regretting anything, but this guy is pretty good/fun to watch.

I have heard from rock solid sources we were for sure going to take him. KC thought so & traded up to get the pick right before us & took him.

I would take maholmes over lattimore and it’s not even close.

I remember the draft and remember really wanting the Saints to take him.

I had no clue this kid was as talented and as fun to watch as he is.

Latimore was such a huge need at the time it was not even close. I think we lucked out getting Bridgewater.

The problem with that is at some point you would have to make a decision with Brees. Are you going to be the guy that doesn't resign Brees to start Maholmes? Brees is playing another couple of seasons possibly so that kid is sitting on the bench damn near till his rookie contract is up

KC jumped all the way up from 27 to 10 to get him. The thought was that they did it to get ahead of the Saints at 11. However, it very well could have been to get ahead of Houston at 12 who ended up taking Watson

if we did draft him, he would've never seen the field.

plus our secondary would be more of a mess than it is now

It’s not even a close decision. Regardless of our shifty defense, if you can take a franchise QB you take him. Sean was ready to pull the trigger on him and was known to have a major man crush on him.

Saints: Lattimore / Kamara / Ramczyk / M.Williams
Chiefs: Mahomes / Hunt

I'd still take the Saints draft over the Chiefs draft but once Brees retires I'm going to change my mind

He wouldn't be playing anyway. We would have no idea how good he is.

If we win another Super Bowl it was the best move

I forget who it was, but someone from the Chiefs outright said they thought the Saints were taking him (I think he also correctly said Lattimore was our other target), which is why they specifically traded right in front of us.

And it was very suspicious that year as it was either 3 or 4 times teams traded literally to the pick ahead of us. Almost like someone was leaking our shite. It worked out so frick it.

Supposedly Payton liked him a lot, and it was a real possibility that he was going to pick him if available. That Lattimore guy is alright I guess though.

No supposedly about it. Payton outright said they would have taken Mahomes had Lattimore not been there, and that if both were there they would have had serious discussions about who to take, but ultimately likely would have taken Lattimore.

How do you honestly know someone didn't leak it? There are always several opinions in the room. Different people debating what the biggest position of need on the team is.

Also scouting lobbying for the guy that they were close to. Your Midwest scout vs your Northeast scout. Your offensive coaches vs your defensive coaches.

And then ultimately your HC and GM.

It would be crappy but could you imagine the Saints Secondary Coach or Defensive Coordinator talking with a KC offensive coach and telling them that they have Mahomes ahead of Lattimore.
