you guys are so short sided. the organization does not hate Payton they won't just hold his rights for a kings ransom. he will get traded to the team he wants to go to.

If I were Sean and the saints play hardball on this, I'd do it right back next year... sit out, and pick my team in 2 years. Without having to give up picks, the market for him would be more broad

Do you know that for a fact? Nothing I've read or heard points to either still liking him or not. The dude was a coward and ran from a bad situation that he created. No reason to have any kind of good feelings toward Payton from the Saints FO.

I think this is Loomis' reaction to Payton's interview with Cowherd a couple of days ago. I would guess he was not happy with Payton publicly stating that the Saints will likely only get a mid-late 1st rounder and then adding that if this goes on to next year, the compensation changes drastically.

saints may still be able to get compensation even if he waits out the contract. same thing happened with arians and even though the nfl said the bucs were free to hire him with no compensation the cards made a stink and the bucs sent over some picks or swapped picks to shut them up. the saints could definitely challenge... none of us know how the contract is worded or how court/arbitrator would rule. who knows.

Most of the posters in this board were adamant at best Loomis would ask for a 5th rounder! I can’t believe most of the posters on this board were so wrong about something……… again!!!!

Sounds possible but you missed one thing. The teams needing a coach could be worse choices than those available in 23 and 24.

Good!! That Gruden deal should be the blueprint to start negotiating.

As I keep saying, Payton will be perhaps the best coach to EVER be traded at the time of it. The only other in that discussion is Parcells. Payton can transform a franchise, that is invaluable to a team. It is going to cost you to get him, as it well should.

Thank you for frick sake! I love Sean for what he did for us but him going on Cowherd and telling what we will get in compensation for him pissed me off. 2 firsts would have always been my price. I would also take a first and two 2nds. You have work to do at DT, WR and QB that would go a long way to the post Payton rebuild. Getting a 1st this season then having 2 next year between our own and the other 1st I would ask for would be amazing and would help get us out of salary cap hell.

Might just be me, but I hope he doesn't go to Carolina.

Heard smoke the owner might break the bank to pay him. More than any other team. Compensation will cost them more than any other team if we have to go against him twice a year.

This basically confirms that Payton leaked the "mid-to-late 1st" talk as a shot across the Saints' bow to take whatever they can get from his preferred destinations

Now Loomis is leaking his actual demands to tell Sean to eat dicks

Well maybe, except he talked about coming back midway through his sham retirement. You think he is going to sit another 1 or 2 years? No one believes that

When compensation to the saints from other teams is involved though, it's not just up to the saints and Payton.

Another thing to consider is what loomis says he has to have is almost certainly more than he will settle for. Just public negotiating

I thought Payton was making 9 million per year with the Saints ? Is he really going to go cheap/discount with the Broncos ?

I think it is also time to send a player(s) out as well, and possibly ask for a player in return. If Carolina they have to to do 2 1sts plus Horn. They can have Peat and Turner.

Thought players couldn’t be involved?

Could they do a separate trade?

cap implications are a bit different with a running back also with wear and tear issues.
