Its the only way to trade him true but I don't see it going that way.
The Saints org has a great rep for handling players as people and not as pieces of sh!t.
This helps with contracts and free agents that might want to come to the Saints.
And I believe one of the reasons we have a winning team.
I don't want to treat a high profile all-pro player with anything other than class.

That aspect of his contract negotiations is going to be interesting, that's for sure.

He can't? So Carolina is a soft defense?

quote:

I already posted his stats against the most physical defenses we played this year and they were awful.

Let's look at these stats you love so much, shall we?

Jets- #11 - 9/116yds 2td
Ari- #6 - 9/134 2td
Buf- #10 - 3/37 2td
SF- #5 - 6/41 0td
Sea- #1 - 3/42 1td
Car- #2 - 6/58 2td
Car- #2 - 5/73 1td

tell me again how he can't produce against physical defenses? you are aware that he was playing with plantar faciitis though, right? if it's anything like your awareness of his ability to play against the top defenses in the league, then my guess is you aren't. well, he did, and he still produced. He also was dealing with defenses that focused on him with double and triple coverage. You are aware that even the great Calvin Johnson struggles sometimes with the same attention? And allow me to point out once more that Jimmay still produced greatly against these defenses and their focus upon him.

I guess your short sightedness of the Seattle playoff game is all you see of him. Go be a Falcons fan with your ignorant negativity

high ranking doesn't equate to being physical.

we're the #4 defense, but we're not even as close to being as physical as seattle and san fran.

Carolina isn't that physical either. They're good, but when I hear and see 'physical defense' it's SF/SEA because of the way their back 7 play our receivers.

junk yardage means crap in the seattle game, we saw him get abused a whole lot the first time around and almost non-existent the second game

yes they are. here's the problem with this "physical" defense statement: there is no quantitative evidence to prove one way or the other. Car, Sea and SF are all physical defenses, but I can't prove it nor can you prove otherwise. Stats is the only thing to show one way or the other, and being the #2 defense is enough evidence of physicality.

It doesn't change that Jimmay produced when fools are saying he "disapeared." He also produced with a dibilitating foot injury.

are carolina back 7 jamming jimmy at the line and holding/dPI on every other play?

speed watching the games right now, it surely doesn't seem like it.

we can't accurately depict a 'physical defense', but talib showed that if you get all up in jimmy's face, his jimmy's get rustled.

I don't deny that he struggled against some press coverage, but he also beat it too. Yes the top physical CB's in the league played him well, but they also did it against a guy playing on a bum foot.

What gets lost in the conversation is that this was only Jimmay's FIFTH year playing football.... ever! He only played one season in college, and then in pros he played '10-'13. He is playing against people that have been playing their entire lives. He has so much to learn still.

To whoever said that he is at his prime and has no more to grow, you are completely wrong on this. He just finished his rookie contract and has only 5 yrs experience. He has another 8-10yrs barring major injuries, and he has a wealth of knowledge and physicality to be gained. The dude is getting better every season.

I'm all for keeping him, don't get me wrong. He was injured, yes, but he still got beat.

last year it was a wrist injury, this year it was a foot injury, but the argument of him being paid either top TE money vs. top 5 WR money is in the interest of the team.

CJ had a brachial plexus injury last year and still blew records. This year he had a knee and finger issue yet he was arguably the best receiver this year as well. At some point, they're going to have to use something to argue vs. jimmy's agents that he is a TE, not a WR and the lack of production vs. physical team/players is going to come up.

Chad504boy's contract prediction of where tings should settle for Jimmy.

6 years 57.5 million 22 million guaranteed

Jimmy will attempt to look for upwards amounts of 11-12 mill a year but mickey hard balls his arse and gets him back down to earth at somewhere a bit over 9 mill a year.

I can see that. I could also see us doing a 6 year - 60million with something like 29 mil guarantee

vjax got 5yr - 55.5m with 26mil guarantee

contracts exactly like this there in lies the problem of this negotiations. Jimmy will want his 11 and mickey will think he's being extremely fair ending at a 9.5 # for TE, highest all time.
