We should have just kept our 3rd and waited for a better deal or forced Sean to sit out another year. This is a disgrace. The Saints are now a disfunctional disaster of an organization.

Weren't you just bitching a few weeks ago that the team wasn't going to get anything for Payton?

don’t think the Saints had the same leverage other teams had when they traded head coaches because Payton was not a sitting head coach. When the Raiders traded Gruden, had the Bucs not met the price, the Raiders would have kept Gruden. I’m sure there were other circumstances that would have been tricky, but Al Davis would have just rolled with Gruden. The Saints ran the risk of getting nothing.

This is a good point. He is also going to the afc so we won't have to play against him every yr.

I think it was a good trade minus giving up the 3rd. That 3rd isn't huge in the scheme of things and you do it to make the deal.

Glad this is over with. Now the saints need to hit on some draft picks.

Lol right?
Most division titles since 2006 in the south. But we were lucky in 09.

You're right. The glorious past is sometimes too soon forgotten.

The Gruden deal probably never happens again. Draft picks are worth to much now days to give up that much again. I would be there isn't a single GM in the league who make that deal now.

Indeed but the blind Saints fanboys don’t want to hear it because WhO dAt. They live in an alternate reality where if you’re positive all the time about the team that means you’re a bigger fan than someone who is logical and realistic.

None of this is true.

The saint didn't lose a third the upgraded it to a 2nd.

A better deal wouldn't have come, certainly after next season when the Saints had much less leverage and who knows what HC vacancies there would have been.

Force him to sit out another year? really? be an arse and stand in the way of him going to a team he wants to go to? Then expect CSP to sit out an even further year if he didn't like any of the options and screw the Saints out of ANY compensation. Mickey did the right thing, best to leave your emotions out of business deals.

If a team other the Denver wanted CSP and there was a better offer waiting in the wings it would have happened.

Not that the deal Denver sent was a bad deal by any stretch. The Saints now have a 2023 1st and 3 pick in the first two round in 2024. I can live without that 3rd next year.
