Tony Elliot

Ah, one of my all-time favorites. New Orleans had a scant 1 or 2 point lead versus the 49ers nearing the end of game. Joe Montana doing his usual drive down the field to get in field goal range. With about 10 seconds left he connected downfield in their kickers range with no time outs remaining intending to spike the ball. While the ref was reaching to set the ball, Elliot gently whiffs it with his foot forcing the ref to spend more time reaching for it (almost pulls out the flag). Time expired and Montana went ballistic .

I jumped so high my hand broke a light fixture on a ceiling fan. Mister Elliot you are awesome.

I was at that game in the Dome. Opening game in 1990 for Monday Night Football. The Saints smashed Montana for 3 quarters and 13 minutes. They could only score FGs. Niners won 13-12 on last minute TD to Rice. It was so loud in the Dome!
