In fairness, watching Dennis Allen vs Nick Sirianni was like watching a pillow fight on the short bus. Both coaches doing their best to out retard the other with that game management. It's hard not to be disgusted.

I'm not a DA fanboy but I don't have a problem with anything he did yesterday. I wanted him to go for it on 4th down. Yesterday was just simply players didn't execute. Also, as I said in other thread, you should be able to run man D in the NFL and not have 3 players collide with each other, that's not on the coach, it's players. And nothing wrong with running man there, that's their bread and butter, players just went stupid in a big moment.

ETA: Nothing wrong with fans being excited for how our Saints started the season, I know we received some hate yesterday but that's just part of it. I survived the 80s and 90s Saints, I can survive a 2-1 start

In all fairness, I thought they would come out and run all over the Eagles after watching them against the Falcons.

But they came prepared, Eagles actually have a pretty good defense...

However, losing McCoy and not having Hill didn't help either.

Which is why I did NOT

With the way the game was going to that point, points were coming at a premium. I thought going up 6-0 would have been huge, even with a full quarter to go.

Funny thing is, at the beginning of the season damn near every poster would have had this team at 1-2 after the first 3 games.

I get it, I just feel we get a TD, we for sure win with how our D was playing. I can't fault coaches for expecting our team to be able to get 1-2 yards on 2 plays. I'd have for certain gone for it also. I kind of would like to see Prentice get some short yardage work if Hill is out, and I say that remembering his fumble last season. Still, he's a big strong dude.

I get that but I actually hated the 4th down call in context.

You're locked in a defensive battle where points are very very scarce. Your offense has been sputtering pretty much all game. You get a blocked punt and you're set up with a chance to go score. Your offense sputters again and instead of taking the points, you try to run it on a d line that has dominated your banged up o line all day and you come away with nothing.

You managed to take a blocked punt that you recovered inside the opponents 30 yard line and you turn that into a momentum shift FOR the eagles.

I get the logic behind it and understand why they thought we could get 1 yard. Hell, with an accurate spot AK may have actually gotten the call. The booth did not catch that AK was spun around right after he extended the ball, and the official did not give him his full forward progress. But I digress.

I just think the decision was made based on being caught in the emotions of the game and seeing the other sideline go for it 3 times on 4th down up to that point. Going for it there isn't a normal DA move, typically he takes the points. Then again, who knows maybe Kubiak has changed/convinced him to take more chances, and this was the first time we got to see this side of DA and we should expect him to roll the dice more often going forward

But just think about how the game changes with that kick there. I know I know, butterfly effect and all but bear with me.

You take the points there and you go up 6-0. Let's say Barkley still busts the long run and you're down 7-6. Grupe hits that next kick and you're back on top 9-7. Olave's touchdown with the PAT put you up 9 with two minutes left. I have to believe the Saints defense can hold a 16-7 lead at home with 2 to go in the game. It was 100% correct to kick there and instead, you hand a huge momentum shift to the Eagles and you're the one having to play catch up instead of the other way around. I do not know why coaches are so allergic to points. Not to mention that, after a sudden change, the Eagles managed to stop you after the punt block. There's no guarantee that even if Alvin gets that first down that you score a touchdown anyway considering you weren't able to get even a first down after a huge momentum play by your special teams. It was the perfect picture yesterday of finding a way to lose a game.

Probably.

But the game laid bare what we all knew...the margin for error with the offense is razor then. When fully healthy there is enough talent at the skill positions combined with a scheme that can mitigate a below average OL, to be successful enough to win games with a really good defense. Take just 1-2 pieces out of the starting lineup on offense (like yesterday) and the whole thing collapsed. The defense/special teams could not have given the offense a better chance to close out that game...multiple times. Yet, didn't happen.

It's the NFL. Injuries are going to happen. It's entirely possible the Saints don't play another game this season with every starter from the first 2 games in the lineup. If two guys being out (neither of which being the starting QB) are all it takes to torpedo the offense from record setting to completely ineffective there is reason for concern.

It probably also has a different outcome with their top 2 WRs and starting RT and RG playing

Pretty much.
Losing McCoy put Carr under center a lot more and that and Taysom out took away a lot of what Kubiak was going to do. Two TD's to Shaheed just missed. Good dline play by philly. Just a damn close game from the get.

If you said anything negative last week even concerns about depth or the like you were shite on as not being able to enjoy a win (with good cause, it was fun).

Not sure you can use Devonte's injury here, he only missed 2 drives. After he goes out of the game, Barkley breaks off the big run. Next drive they miss the FG. Last drive is a TD. How much more could he have done?

I didn't hate not taking the points. The Eagles could have been up 6-3 too.

No team in the league has depth at the oline

Atlanta is going to have to start a UDFA at center

Imagine the coaches and players being as sensitive as some of yall. They would never get better

Everyone who spoke post game was critical of their play. Address it and get better.
