10 seconds left, no time outs, they have to score a td to win...time for 1 play....why in the frick were we not in a prevent....4 across mid to deep and 4 deep...instead we in a fricking 2 deep?...wow....it was the Last play...even if he catches in fg range clock runs out ....

5 defenders tackle 14 if we are in prevent d....

I don't blame Williams at all for trying....what I have an issue with is the situation and the coaches not putting the defense in the best position formation wise to shut any thing freakish(like exactly what happened) down...

Great job dc....great job....id take 50k when u make millions to run a defense on game day and could of put the defense in a better position to be succesful to make positive the very bullshite that happened in the Last play, NOT happen....dumb ,just dumb

Your wrong, there would have been no time to kick a fg....Proper prevent and clock runs out...pass was off with 4 secs left....game over if we play in prevent,1 player misses no worries, thats okay cause u have 7 others dropped to tackle 14....the dc fricked that up

Diggs would of went out if bounds if he seen someone behind Williams.

They would of had 5 seconds left to kick a fg

watch the replay dude.....he caught the ball on our 30 yard line with 4 seconds left. If Williams doesn't miss the tackle but just shoves him out of bounds, the Vikings have time for a 47 yard game winner. I don't think people realize that Williams either had to bat the ball down or tackle him inbounds.

I know what you cannot do there and that is completely whiff trying to tackle the guy and in the process taking out the only other defender who may have had a shot at a game saving tackle

You can't play deep prevent with a 1 point lead and 10 seconds (time for 2 plays).
As has already been noted, Diggs caught the ball with 4 seconds left, and would go out of bounds if he didn't have a path to the endzone. Minny would have a game-winning FG attempt.

Lost in all this- Williams was playing deep safety, Diggs wasn't his man. Who was the corner that let Diggs get 10 yds behind him on a 25 yd pass?

Plenty of time to run an out, get 15-20 yards and kick a GW FG, or get a PI in FG range and win on an untimed down. Lots of ways for the Vikes to win. That was just the most dramatic.

Because they didn't need a TD. They needed a field goal. And if he's allowed to catch the ball and get out of bounds, they still have 2-3 seconds to kick it.

So us defending the middle more than the sideline was dumb? I agree

Chris Carter said it perfectly this morning.

They were running a three-level corner out.

They were never going to the middle of the field.

The proper coverage should have had the linebackers where Crawley was. Crawley where Marcus was and Marcus is the last line.

I don't think most are realizing how far away from the line he was. It's probably less than 10% he gets out of bounds if tackled. Even if he somehow did, it's probably from getting pushed out and that doesn't stop the clock.

This is the correct answer. There was no need whatsoever to bat the ball down, unless you're in front of the receiver. Williams job was to NEVER let the receiver behind him. That removes the option of batting it down. He simply needed to put himself between the player and out of bounds, and wrap him up. That's it. So simple.

But that's not as sexy as being a hero and making a big hit to end the game. Only problem, that ego cost the Saints a Super Bowl.

He was far enough away to not only recover but completely pivot to run down the sideline.

We just had to tackle him.

If you have 1 more defender on the sideline, it is only 30% chance he catches it and 0% he gets out of bounds if he does

Yes exactly robertson should have been on sideline why cover middle with no timeouts .
Saints Dennis Allen and whoever else should have been prepared for this can't really put it on the rookie when he was in a bad position. He hasn't let shite by him all year
