he only thing this thread is doing is what you weren't trying to do. We're fricking 7-2 with a top five d with Brees breaking his own completion percentage record. This thread has a time and place but it ain't now.

Great post!!! You're right! I'm out. Sorry for the derail. I should be enjoying the moment. Good call. Go Saints, let's ride this out!

Championships are forever. You keep Brees until he runs into the ground and can't go anymore. You worry about after, after.

You realize the risk is greater with keeping Brees than replacing him with a known legitimate, younger commodity, right?

for 4 years, I know what I get in Brees, a known SB winner and a guy who's QB talent is still elite.

for 5 years, I honestly don't know what I get in Cousins outside of a quality QB in a certain system. I don't know if he can make the same reads, I don't know if he can make the same plays, hell I don't even know if he can diagnose the defense like Brees. On paper, he looks good but what if a new system fricks him up? What if it asks too much of him than he's doing now?

He would probably require a Stafford-like contract, which is healthy

Why not lock down a known commodity for years instead of signing an aging QB and hoping for the best.
Because in giving Cousins a Stafford-like contract, you are literally guaranteeing yourself no shot whatsoever at a title. Seems like a good enough reason for me to avoid Kirk Cousins like the plague.

Even if the Saints move on from Brees, a long term contract to Cousins is the last thing we should do.

With all of that being written, we are a different team now. I think we can all agree that Drew, while still Drewlike in accuracy, is a different Drew now.
Brees is the 2nd highest rated QB in the NFL this season by PFF. You want to move on from THAT?

For the past 3 or 4 years there have been plenty of fans bitching about how much we've been paying Brees. Now the solution is to pay Cousin's even more? frick that. I'll stick with Brees for another 2 or 3 years.

Tom Brady (8/3/77) is almost a year and a half older than Brees (1/15/79) and the Patriots just traded his heir apparent (again). Barring major injury, I think Brees has a few quality years left. Especially if we continue to utilize a more run heavy offense like we are this year.

I know cousins is prob the smarter long term decision, but i still think drew is an elite qb. He may be for 2-3 more years. And damn he is an easy qb to like. Ill ride with him until he can no longer do it. I want him to break those qb records with the saints. And i think we can still win with him for a couple years. Truly we dont know how long these guys can play now that they are protected more. I think 40 may be a new minimum for qbs that are good

Odds are you do not get a legitimate starting NFL QB by drafting in the bottom half of the first round. Numbers back this up.

I didn't say bottom half of the draft. If there's a value QB pick in the 1st I'd be ok with it. I just dont want to reach.
