Look, I love Drew Brees. He has taken this franchise to heights that I never dreamed it could reach. I know we are in the middle of a run that is good as we've seen since'11 and I'm not trying to diminish that.

With all of that being written, we are a different team now. I think we can all agree that Drew, while still Drewlike in accuracy, is a different Drew now. I know this is blasphemy, and I feel bad for even typing it, but I feel this team would be better served long term moving on from Drew after this season. I think Sean finally realizes the formula for championship football. Ball control and a stingy defense. Am I the only one that feels this way? I doubt it.

I bring this up because I think we are playing the QB, that in my mind, resembles the type of player that could keep us at a very competitive level for 10 more years. With a competent offensive staff, he could be even better than what he has already been. He has the attitude and arm talent that are perfect for Payton's system. His numbers are legit and would improve in our offense.

He would probably require a Stafford-like contract, which is healthy. But any QB worth anything will require that type of contract moving forward. Now, we could try to draft a QB, but without moving up to the first few picks, this is a crapshoot at best. Why not lock down a known commodity for years instead of signing an aging QB and hoping for the best.

I'm sure some on here will think I'm killing our buzz, and that is not the intent. I just want to continue this run of legitimacy that we have established. Am I crazy?

Matt Stafford
118 Games
61.6%
204 TD
113 INT
87.5 QBR

Kirk Cousins
55 Games
66%
86 TD
47 INT
94.4 QBR

As well as I think he would do here I doubt it

If we make the playoffs Drew will be here until he retires which will be in 3-4 more years. So, in all likelihood we will draft one

KC would be money here but if Brees says he wants to stay and take a run for a few more years than that is what we do.

Behind this OL and this run game he would do VERY well here

But it won't happen. Someone else will overpay. But we do need to draft a QB this year or next year and have him sit behind Drew. I think that's really important

Bradford will never stay healthy

Smith is 4 years older and Cousins has better numbers.

Alex Smith

87.2 QBR

No doubt. Awhile ago I posted a chart of QB’s that have been successful over 40 years and I think in the entire history of the NFL is what was like 3-4. I think Brees can be 4-5 but history dictates not much after that.

Tell that to Brady.

History is not on our side. A proactive staff and front office should see this. Brees is not built like Brady. He should not be compared to him in any way.

Would rather try to get brees a ring for 4 more years and then find a replacement than to tell him f off and sign cousins to 5/125 and risk it.

Draft a QB this year or next and let brees mentor him for the next 2-3 years. I really think we should pull the trigger on a QB this year though if a good one falls to us or is within trading distance. Baker Mayfield would be awesome.

I’m glad the first round worked out for us the way it did with Ram and Lattimore but I’d be kinda excited if we had Mahommes waiting in the shadows

You realize the risk is greater with keeping Brees than replacing him with a known legitimate, younger commodity, right?

We've tried this. It is roulette. Why not get a guy whose floor is 7 wins. And, with a good defense could bring us some rings.

Because of the price tag. Brees would be cheaper and better for the next 2-3 years despite his age. Get a rookie QB and we can have another era of dominant football. It's a gamble but nearly as big a gamble as cousins with how much you'd have to pay him.

A move for Cousins could potentially cripple us for a solid 5-8 years
