They are talking about spending a 1st/2nd round pick like the packers with Rodgers not a 6th round flyer

I'm not getting this logic. How much better do you think Brees will be over the next 2 years with about the same price tag? And then what? I think it would be worth the gamble based on previous results.

History is not on our side. A proactive staff and front office should see this. Brees is not built like Brady. He should not be compared to him in any way.

Did you read my post? I am talking about QB’s over 40

I'm on board if it works. But why not spend on a proven commodity. The numbers back me up. The draft is a gamble. You know this. Rodgers is a generational talent. It rarely happens that way.

Cousins is good, but I think Brees is just as good at least. We could get Brees on a 2-3 yr contract and cousins is going to want a 5yr probably. I really like cousins, but it would be so stupid to bail on brees when he really isnt showing much decline yet.

Since we’ve built a young and cheap defense, no.

Plus we probably have the best RB duo in the league and a top o-line.

I just have this feeling Cousins would need the Saints more than the Saints would need Cousins

even in 3-4 years

But how long do you wait? When it happens, it will be too late to get a decent QB in free agency. I'm just saying to be proactive. Look at Brees' and Cousins' numbers at the same age and tell me that the same success couldn't be similar in an offensive system like ours. I want what is best for the organization long term. I think getting a middle aged QB, with not a lot of mileage on him, with a good upside would be huge for future success.

Great, now let's see Drew's numbers for the same amount of games played

This is exactly why you do it! Am I missing something? Cousins would complement a young defense perfectly. His completion percentage would only go up with Payton. Ball control would be his MO. I don't see why you wait? This team could be special for many years to come. Little to no drop off.

Rookie contracts are cheap these days. The Patriots draft QBs all the time. It's also what helps keep Brady challenged. We can get a potentially very good QB this draft without having to do a ridiculous trade up and let them sit the bench. Sign Brees to another 2 year.

Ok, lets do.

At San Diego, since that was before he started in our system.

57 Games
61%
80 TD
53 INT
85 QBR

We are not the Patriots and Brees is not Brady. This has been established. Odds are you do not get a legitimate starting NFL QB by drafting in the bottom half of the first round. Numbers back this up.

Brees is not brady, but he's still drew brees. let's not talk out of our asses. He's still playing at an elite level.

I love Drew Brees as our QB. He is perfect for what we are doing right now. All I am trying to say is why not be proactive and get a similar QB at a much younger age and continue to roll for years to come. The numbers back up what I have written. I get why people can't come to terms with the inevitable. I myself don't like the thought of parting ways with Brees. But when the decline happens, and it will, it will be swift and then where will we be?

Drew Brees is here until he retires. He earned that that right. You don't drop Drew Brees to sign a free agent QB. You draft someone to back him up and hope he works out to take over later or gain you assets. It's just the way the NFL works.

The only thing this thread is doing is what you weren't trying to do. We're fricking 7-2 with a top five d with Brees breaking his own completion percentage record. This thread has a time and place but it ain't now.

It always ends on bad terms. But they always realize it's a business decision. Look at Montana in San Fran, Manning in Indy. I know their replacements were drafted, but does it really matter?
