Loomis probably hoping this dude announces his retirement today. You can tell from his responses/body language when asked about AK.

He was supposed to go on the show before the draft but cancelled last minute

This is kind of big news

If he says he is not and has not been considering retiring this year I will eat all of my words.

He isn't one to be quiet on things when he actually decides to speak, so whatever it is I think will be the raw stuff.

I was really hoping we'd trade him during the draft but then I saw that his dead cap hit would've been like 20M. If we trade or cut him after June 1st, his dead cap hit is less than 10M.

Cutting him saves next to nothing, even after June 1st, so that isn't happening.

Trading him, however, will save $3 mil (after June 1st), but he had gone on record he would retire if traded. No clue if that still stands.

You’re ignoring the $10.155 million he’s due during the season as non-guaranteed money

So I double checked into this and that was the amount converted, but the guaranteed portion did NOT become unguaranteed in the conversion (the rule specifically states it does not do that as well).

quote:

Alvin Kamara signed a two year, $23.5 million contract extension with the Saints on October 24, 2024. $22.23 million is guaranteed of which $12 million is newly guaranteed money. Kamara received a $15.5 million signing bonus and his 2025 salary is fully guaranteed.

Basically all but $1.27 mil was guaranteed, which means we do NOT save $10 mil like what was claimed, since nearly the entire amount of his contract was guaranteed.

Like I said, when the story came out there was a lot of false and misleading info put out, and this was some of it.

Like I said, a lot of bad and false reporting. You can cite what you want but that's his actual contract details from otc with sources.

What that specific site you quoted is not accounting for is the fact that most of his money was guaranteed before conversion, and like I said the rule specifically states that guaranteed money stays guaranteed. Only $1.27 mil of his total contract was not guaranteed.

You’re not accounting for non-guaranteed money that is pro-rated to future cap years

You’re just making it up and claiming you know more than an actual Saints reporter, Ross Jackson, who does this for a living

You are missing that his base salary was nearly fully guaranteed before the conversion.

Like I said, quoted right there, the only portion of his 2025 and 2026 contract that was NOT guaranteed was $1.27 mil.

And the Saints reporters overlooked what portion of his base was already guaranteed before conversion, which is why we had the false reporting to begin with. They just saw the rule said converted money is not guaranteed and ran with it, not reading the whole rule.

quote:

The New Orleans Saints used the "50% Rule"—sometimes known as the "Deion Rule"—from the CBA to restructure Alvin Kamara's contract in March 2026, creating $8.1 million in cap space. This rare maneuver allowed them to convert $10.155 million of his 2026 base salary into a signing bonus by utilizing a steep drop in his 2027 salary, enabling them to prorate the cap hit without adding new guaranteed money.

This is the overlooked part. It didn't add new guaranteed money, which is why $1.27 mil is still not guaranteed, but all of the old guarantees, that I showed you above, still remained.

Literally the false reporting that I was talking about. It doesn't take GUARANTEED money and make it unguaranteed. It just prevents NEW guarantees.

His last contract was all but $1.27 mil guaranteed.

said he’s going to come to nola soon to meet all the rookies, excited about David Edwards. Thinks he and Travis can be like him and Ingram

Definitely not thinking about retirement

eta

he confirmed something is up with the negotiations with the Saints. Said it could be a series of interviews with Terron about it, but he isn’t answering it right now. “Doesn’t want to get his cortisol up” and stress about it right now.

He’s training in Miami and planning to play

Loomis has spent the entire offseason talking about Kamara like he's a free agent, when he's not.

Kamara's doing a clever job of being business as usual, talking about getting back in town, meeting the rookies, etc.

He's clearly not considering retirement and probably won't accept a pay cut, so he's going to force Loomis to decide whether or not he wants to get rid of a Saints legend who's just showing up to work.

Yeah he definitely doesn't sound like he's considering retirement, so I admit to being very wrong about that.

We'll see if he comes back on and actually talks about the "other" situation they were hinting at, but that was pretty shifty/smart to lure people in like he was going to reveal something to just say to be continued.

I have watched Armstead's channel a few times now and it's always great so I ain't mad at it. He deserves to have success with it. But don't abuse that. =P

The remainder of his contract did not disappear, just is not guaranteed. The "conversion" the Saints made was a cap conversion and did not change the terms of his contract. He is guaranteed $3 million but the remainder he was due is simply nonguaranteed that he will earn if he plays.
