Jane Slater gives significant update on Derek Carr situation from "source" (David Carr)

Slater works with David at NFL network so pretty obvious who the source is
quote:
Few updates from the Insiders today on the #Saints and the Derek Carr situation according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
1) Carr HAS been to New Orleans twice in recent weeks to meet with the team doctor at the facility
2) He believes he injured his throwing shoulder in the same game he injured his left wrist. (Saints Giants Wk 14)
3) Why are we just figuring this stuff out now? He didn’t start meaningfully throwing until this spring as he ramped up for off season work and that’s when he noticed it. Prior to that I’m told he only threw a bit in a walkthrough with a fake football to injured players and Alvin Kamara. He didn’t get a chance to come back and really push it because Saints got eliminated and were out of contention and they sat players.
4) Why not just get surgery? Sounds like he would rather not as he has already had surgery before on that arm but still navigating that decision.
5) The Saints are trying to decide what’s best for the team and Derek is still actively trying to make the best decision for his shoulder.
6) A decision either way will be made here sooner rather than later per same source
Admittedly I know there are still a lot of questions here and not a lot of people are providing a lot of answers but that’s about as middle of the road as I could get as there is a lot of information and misinformation floating out there. So…we still wait

I wish they'd just listen to the fans on this one. Don't really care about his health or the 1-2 extra games we could win if we had him. Want NOTHING to do with this loser in a Saints jersey ever again. So either shut him down and let him rot on the roster until next offseason and do a Post June 1 cut next offseason, or just get rid of him this yr now

lots of words to still say we know nothing pretty much.

What she said on TV but not in this tweet is that while he has been here twice to meet with Doctors, it is "unclear if he has met with Kellen Moore"
He seriously may have not met with the new HC running the new Offense at all.
So that should be an answer to a lot of questions

Sounds like great advice on running a professional sports organization. Let's have Randy from the Westbank and ChunkMunkey69 from Eunice call the shots from now on.

That sounds like a reasonable reason. I imagine this is normal for QBs to basically just shut down for a few months and let the body recover

Another reasonable position as to why he may want to consider all possible non-surgical options before making the decision.

But what if they played high school football? Their knowledge may be immense

Usually I'd totally agree and think it's a terrible take. However, in this situation, I think you've crossed the point of no return with Carr. I would say an overwhelming amount of fans hate Carr at this point and if he's the one taking snaps under center game 1, I think it's going to be a really bad look with the amount of boo's there will be in the dome.
I just don't think that's a wise situation to put your first year head coach and his new rookie QB in. Especially when Moore has zero ties to Carr. Makes no sense with everything that has transpired to have him be a major distraction.

Fans aren't gonna buy tickets if they hate the team.

Won't buy tickets if it looks like last year after Carr went down either

Seems to me the Carr camp is desperately trying to change the narrative on this situation.
Probably because other teams are now seeing him as wither lying about the severity his injury or trying to cover up his dysfunctional relationship with the team.
Neither is a good look for a players soon to ne looking for a new opportunity to play.

And there were also reports that he was seeking a trade.
Were those reports credible? Because if they were then hell yeah it's a bad look.

And thats why he's Derek Carr. Thats why he's never won a playoff game.
$100 million dollars and he takes a 3-4 month vacation. Stiff as a board, goofy happy feet and horrible throwing mechanics. If he was serious about winning he would be working on these things night and day.

Yep. This is the way. His contract for this year is guaranteed, so he gets paid whether he's cut, on another team, plays for the Saints, on IR, healthy scratch.... At this point, there is no financial incentive for the Saints to cut him before sometime around 03/15/26 (due a $10M roster bonus on 5th league day of 2026).
Cut him now, his 2025 cap hit jumps from $20,462,000 to $80,132,000 and he's off the books in 2026 (only $27M in cap space and still have to sign rookies).
Wait until 6/2/25 his 2025 cap hit stays at $20,462,000, but his 2026 cap hit is locked in at $59,670,000
Cut him before the approximated 03/15/26 deadline and his 2026 cap hit will be $59,670,000 until 06/02/26 where it drops to $19,207,000 and you kick $40,463,000 onto the 2027 cap.
Regardless of the route taken, the team still has a $80M+ cap hit to absorb. Just a matter of do they want/need to spread that over 1, 2 or 3 years

The best thing for the Saints, their fans, and Carr Is to move on
That being said, Loomis will probably have him starting the first game

Derek Carr isn't on any other teams' radar. If it wasn't for us he'd be a backup or retired. We are the only organization dumb enough to want him
