I didn't see too much talk about his performance Sunday night. I"m sure I missed it.

But, being at the game and watching him, he's terrible. When they play him as the single high safety (even 25 yards off the LOS), he still can't get to the ball. He looks extremely slow and on top of that, he doesn't seem to play with any energy.

I predict that the team will put him on IR within a few weeks.

I mean he's had a knee injury for well over a year I wouldn't expect him to run a 4.3.

Good point. There is no room between a 4.3 and being fast enough to get over the top on a passing play.

He didn't get hurt in the game. A miracle.

He was in on certain packages.

How about we let him play a few games in the system before we over react. Glad we didn't give up on Spiller after his first game against the Bucs.

This is really the only criteria I wanted to meet from him getting in the game

He made a few solid tackles, but he looked pretty slow out there. I think a few more games under his belt will do wonders though.

We could have timed this really well. Get him and Lewis way more PT this week. Then against ATL we SHOCK THE WORLD and shut down the dirty birds!

I thought he played well? For being out of football so long. He dropped some wood on one hit too.

Spiller is still less than 2 months removed from surgery.

You're pathetic and have been wrong about every injury prediction time frame for every player.

Where is everyone saying that he would never play again? Weren't you one of them?

He played well given his snaps, was pumping up the crowd, and I believe he blew up a run play early on for a loss or no gain. He looked fast on that play. I think you're confusing speed for awareness

He knew where everyone was supposed to be on the field, and was calling adjustments

You mean he can't get to the ball when he has the entire field to cover? Ever thought the defense maybe isn't designed to have him responsible for the entire field. Did you ever think that the single safety allows us to better play the run and short passes, especially against a Weeden led team?

He made a td saving tackle coming across the field too. Calling him terrible with zero blown coverages or even catches given up on him is just plain laughable

Couldn't disagree more, there was a noticeable difference in how quickly Byrd diagnosed a play and got to the ball versus the other guys we have had at safety, like Phillips.

Which is what I said. He's confusing a lack of awareness, which is expected with a year off football, with a lack of speed. He had at least 2 plays where he flew to the ball and made a nice tackle

Did you also notice that we only played the single high safety when Byrd was on the field? You don't think that was a big part to our improved pass rush or run defense, having more men near the LoS?

He had 0 passes completed on him. Calling him terrible in this performance, with 36 snaps is laughably pathetic

Spiller can run...fast...fast enough to play his position.

He looked bad before his injury. Ryan has no clue how to use him. He was at his best in Buffalo when he was playing robber roles in the defense. That said, I don't think he played bad...

It's more that Ryan is not using him correctly. Guy is a playmaker and sitting him deep off every pass doesn't seem to play to his greatest strength. Perhaps the bigger issue is Ryan doesn't trust anyone else at S so it forces Byrd into this role.
