I just assumed at one point since the D was so bad they were thinking about switching to a 3-4

he's a 3-4 rush LB, and we play a 4-3...
he NEVER had a chance to succeed here, and it made no sense for us to draft him at all...

Well, don't forget the Saints drafted D'Marco Jackson out of App St but he got placed on IR in August.
he was a 5th round draft pick.
He definitely would have been in the mix with the way injuries have been going.
He's a player I'm really looking forward to watching next year.

They were fascinated with the thought of having a versatile linebacker that can rush the passer. They tried to sign Jamie Collins the same year. A guy that could play 3-4 edge or off ball linebacker and they can send him after the qb on blitzes. Baun projected as the same type of player but never became that guy.

I always had him pegged as a 3-4 outside rush linebacker coming out of the draft. He doesn’t fit our defense but though he could still add value as a 3rd down pass rusher, but apparently not.
Still just a 3rd round pick, majority don’t see a 2nd contract anyway.

Ellis is good.
Baun is a special teams and depth guy. Basically our new Craig Robertson.
What I don’t get is why he can’t be a pass rusher on 3rd and long. Either move Davenport or Cam inside and let Baun rush off the edge or move him around in that robber position. He’s a pass rusher we don’t use to pass rush!
