Ginn isn't getting cut, but he may very well be a healthy scratch on some gamedays.

His presence in the locker room, field, and position room is huge.

I think the addition of Cameron Meredith and start of TreQuan Smith changes everything. Maybe we can a tiny draft pick trading him or something but he's not as "needed" as he was last year. Likely we carry him 1 more year, but its an interesting thought that may be discussed more than we realize.

So based off of a few practices we’re going to let go of our second best receiving target? Meredith and Smith COULD be good for us, but until they produce in meaningful games they’re still a massive TBD.

So that’s still only 3 guys at a position where you need around 5 to have any depth and have varying skill sets. You think both of these two guys you are already gambling on are going to stay completely healthy throughout the year? Ginn actually offers something different and at a highly reasonable salary. We’re also very thin at pass catching TE after a 38 year old vet.

The thought isn’t really interesting at all.

Say:

MT13
Meredith
Smith

Tate (lets play pretend) type guy makes due to PR

That leaves 2 or 3 spots for Ginn, Lewis, Huff, Floyd, or maybe a Carr. Not to mention anyone else cut. The slim possibility is there.

Sure. He could get hurt in the preseason. Otherwise it’s the same old bullshite preseason talk. No shot in hell we replace a reasonably priced deep threat coming off his best season with even MORE uncertainty by adding fringe roster type players to a squad with two guys who didn’t play a down of nfl football last year. That would be completely stupid for a team with high aspirations.

Is Ginn the fastest WR on the team?

maybe coaches have confidence in guys they are watching show out every day in training camp. We have a lot to learn come these first 3 preseason games though.

Ok? He’s at the point in his career where we shouldn’t be taking his better players (especially relatively cheap ones) and making him elevate fringe level crap to competent nfl players. He should get more help, not less.

People say this about camp bodies at WR almost every year. It usually never comes to fruition, I’d expect it to even less when we have two healthy guys on the roster who have actually had success in the nfl last season.

Meredith is proven in NFL, just coming back from injury.

Smith is balling out.

Huff and Lewis are semi known quantities as backups. Floyd might be proving he belongs in the league still.

Meredith is a vastly different type of wr than Ginn and you absolutely can’t discount his injury.

Smith is in training camp of his rookie year. He literally hasn’t had a down of nfl competition. Can’t exactly say he’s “balling out”

Floyd is also a different type of wr to Ginn.

Huff and Lewis are fringe roster guys at WR.
You’re better than this thread.

TLL has not caught everything. Every practice are reports of him dropping passes. One led an interception. He also dropped a punt. He’s wildly inconsistent.

Ginn is a stone cold lock

Just a guess, but I'd say either Ginn or Tommylee. Tommylee is shiftier/quicker, but I'm not sure about straight line speed.

Even at his age...Ginn still has speed to burn. Ginn will probably stick around the league until his speed takes an obvious dive. He's actually developed into a complete WR (besides blocking) over the years.

Lewis is more quick than fast. In a race Ginn would smoke him badly. It's not really close.

You're probably right. Ginn doesn't seem to have lost any speed since he came into the league & he's always been known as 1 of the fastest guys in the entire league.

It's Ginn and I don't know if anyone else is close long speed wise.

If you want to add on Scott to the conversation he has pretty good long speed (still think Ginn is faster), but that's adding in backs.

As for Ginn, he's going nowhere this year and he'll be active on gamedays. We keep 4 guys active, or 5 if one is a returner and/or gunner.

It's been a while since Roby but when we had him we always kept 6 guys. Add in the fact that Ginn can return punts also and it gives him that value to stick around AND be active on gamedays.

Thinks he is solid for one more year.
