How did you like the hire at the time? I didn't know much about him but liked that he was a Parcells guy and coached in the Super Bowl. Definitely thought it was a move in the right direction.

I knew 100% what he was

Looked at his résumé and when I heard Parcells complaining about jap plays, I knew he was an offensive genius being held back.

Collins had his best years under Payton

Bledsoe revived his career

Quincy fricking carter looked like an average NFL QB.

I waited for weeks to hear the announcement we hired Payton.

My initial reaction was that he wasn't a big name, so I was a little disappointed. Honestly, I knew very little about him until his name kept getting mentioned prior to hire.

I had no idea what we had, but I quickly realized something special was going on that first season.

When he got hired i didnt know of him at first. But then iseen a clip when he was coaching at Dallas. Parcells told him we need a touchdown pass then Payton says " thats why im calling the fricking play" after seeing i knew we atleast had a coach that will light a fire under the players asses.

Have a link of the video? I remember seeing a clip where Parcells tore Payton a new one.

I was kind of meh on him. I knew him from Parcells, but mainly as the guy that got his play-calling duties snatched from him with the Giants.

I'll be 100% honest, I wanted Mike Martz and I wanted us to draft Matt Leinart.

No Payton. No Brees.

Flame away

Same here. I was waffling between Leinart and Vince Young though.

Will anyone else admit to being happy the Saints got Reggie Bush?

I was happy when we drafted him, then again I fell for the hype and thought he was the 2nd coming

I never thought that but I thought he could be an explosive weapon

The Saints never fully exploited his potential -- but the way they did use him won us a SB, so I'll settle for that
