If Watson is smart, why wouldn't he pick 1 team & only waive his No Trade Clause for them?

Houston is most likely going to trade him as long as a trade offer is reasonable. Whatever team he picks is going to give up a huge amount to get him regardless. Doing this would give the team he goes to a small bit of leverage back and possibly save the team he is traded to some tiny amount: a player or maybe a 2nd round pick, etc. It wouldn't be much, but it would be something to make the team he is traded to slightly better off. He already hates Houston...why not do that?
Unless, of course...he just wants out that bad, is cool with any of the teams, and doesn't care what they have to give up to get him. If he says that he is ok with all 3, the bidding war will be astronomical.

I don't feel one way or the other. He could be. And he may do that.

Because Houston can just keep him and waste his career until his contract ends. I believe he’s under contract until 2026.
At the end of the day there has to be cooperation from both sides. Which is what it seems like is happening.

Houston is unlikely to hold on to him if the offer is fair. 3 1sts plus good player or two is a fair offer and Houston would likely do it.
Like I said, I am talking about a team being able to keep some small asset, maybe a singlular non-1st Round pick, or 1 player.

If I had to guess, that is exactly what he's doing. He will meet with the teams that he has interest in, then go back to Houston and say, "Trade me to _________."

I think you’re over thinking it. I think he just wants to get to a good situation. Maybe the team he picks will instruct him to do something what you’re proposing.

He has no incentive to help them with their cap and his cap numbers are
2022: $40.4M
2023: $42.4M
2024: $37.4M
2025: $32M
I can see them holding him for one more year, giving it one more shot before trade deadline in 2022. But no way he would be on their roster by the beginning of '23 ($17M roster bonus). This roster bonus, and him sitting another year, would also cause Hou to lose some of their leverage. Plus, this would be a bad look when competing for other FAs.

Texans had more leverage last year to sit on his contract. They pretty much have to trade him this year. Watson has more leverage this year to say where he wants to go.

I’ve wondered the same thing. If you go to them and say “I only want to go to team X” then you may drive the price down and not weaken the team you’re going to quite as much.

Texans are not forced or required to trade him. If Watson will only waive his no trade clause for only 1 team, but that team isn't offering a good trade, they can simply refuse to trade him.
I feel like it would be in Watson's best interest if he was open to multiple teams. I don't think he has the leverage to play hard ball by trying to force a trade to only 1 team.
