If Watson is indeed stalling for ATL then why are we waiting?

The entire ordeal makes no sense. If it's such common knowledge to "insiders" and fans that Watson is 100% in with Atlanta then why exactly are the Saints still hanging on?
Unless there is something else not going on that the insiders aren't privy to and the Saints have a better shot than most think.

I'm sure there's things the fans don't know that's going on on the inside. I'm not saying we're going to land him, but there's a lot we don't know.

How does it benefit the Saints to publicly say what they know/don't know and are planning to do? For all we know they could've moved on last night privately.

We are most likely moved on and working on other options. However they are not making that public or known to the falcons/texans bc they want to continue to pressure falcons to have to make their best offers.

No one other than Watson's inner circle and maybe the Falcons brass can know for absolute certainty that he's stalling for them. The Saints certainly would not. Even if they had an idea (like we do), they have to maintain incase he actually is still considering us. If they start making calls for other Qbs or whatever, Watson is gonna find out and then it's for sure a done deal. If it's truly 1-2 days away at most and the market is waiting anyway, might as well wait it out.

The ole Catch 22. By having the Saints hanging in, it could cause Atl to have to spend more to make sure they lock up Watson. At the same time, if the Saints drop out it could reduce the trade market for Ryan.

Because we can’t be sure, I guess. But the writing is on the wall

It’s because everything hinges on Matt Ryan being traded. I see 50/50 that they actually can unload him and make it work.
Watson wants to see what happens with this I think.

If they can't make the room for watson, and we somehow get him by default, I wonder if Watson isn't interested in a long term deal. Would we be interested in him if it's only a 2-year deal?

Right. I'm just curious about that piece. ATL is where he wants to be. Sooooo he would obviously understand another team wants him as a franchise QB long-term. So I don't see what all this BS is about. This is a weird fricking situation to be in. I'm just curious about his mindset here.

What do you mean, "waiting".
Do you think we are holding offers to other guys that we'd be willing to make a deal for?
I think the Saints haven't yet found what they want all things considered (compensation to acquire, contract, player value, etc.) I think the Saints don't want to overpay for a player that isn't a long term solution.
There's zero chance I give Winston a 4 year deal. No shot. If that's what Winston has indicated he wants, then it makes sense to allow him to shop and see if he can find it.
There's zero chance I'd give major draft capital for Garrapolo. If that's what the 49ers want, I'd wait and see what happens.
In other words, the Saints aren't waiting due to Watson. They are waiting because an acceptable deal isn't available to them righ tnow.

You wait at the very minimum to keep Atlanta’s offer high. That simple.

Even if the Saints know they are not going to get him, it is important for them to publicly and privately keep the pressure on trying to acquire him. He has just two options right now and if the Saints back off, it will give the Falcons more leverage in their negotiations. With two teams in the mix they are "competing" against another offer so in theory have to give up more to acquire him.
