Where is the evidence that "this shite still went on"?

The player suspensions are all from activities PRIOR to when the commissioner said "stop this shite". If they had evidence that "shite still went on", then they would have suspended players from the time that shite was allegedly going on.

Godell also claimed as many as 27 players were guilty of this scheme. Why are 23 ignored in penalties?

GABlueDog, I disagree with your analysis. To prove his affirmative defense of "truth" regarding the defamation claim, Goodell is going to have to present evidence that there actually were cart-offs etc.. If such evidence existed don't you think that we would have already seen it? Actually given the fact that there were ZERO cart-offs during the three year period in question, I'm confident that Goodell is going to fail miserably and publicly. Of course, ESPN (and other NFL sycophants) won't cover this extensively, but the information will, ultimately, hurt Goodell.

Most here don't seem to be reading the OP right.

He says 'if he prevails' which I conclude means wins a lawsuit in a court of law with the whole dang country watching that Godell lied to us all and set a NFL player up.
Not even counting the money he would have zero cred and be the most hated commish in history in any sport.
The NFL owners would never keep any commish with this bad rep and pub.

But as its been said this is a case that is always almost impossible to win, but it can allow evidence to be shown in an open court.

I didn't say you don't understand the elements of slander.

hey all agree on a permanent long term plan for the NFL and they will not be altered by a tiny bump that is a Vilma lawsuit.

Again you're not comprehending purpose of lawsuit.

Do you really think Vilma is filing a defamation of character suit in order to alter the longterm plans of the NFL?

He wants the "evidence" the league has and refuses to turn over. Simple as that.

The best result will be the evidence being released publicly for everyone to make their own opinions while having the players be able to publicly refute certain things.

So what happens when the evidence is released and its a bunch of "my fathers brothers nephews 2nd cousins former roomate told me..."? Does the media finally get off its witch hunt?

from Grantland today

quote:

Suspended New Orleans Saint Jonathan Vilma sued Roger Goodell for defamation, citing "erroneous" claims by the commissioner that Vilma was a leader of the team's bounty program. "A leader?!" said an incredulous Vilma, speaking to reporters. "I was the Bounty King! Bount Everest! The Bountain of Youth! Ol' Bount Dracula!" In the background, his lawyers could be seen muttering angrily and ripping up the lawsuit.

Bount Dracula!
