Do you think my posts in this thread make up "hot takes" and that of someone unhinged about the Saints?

It wasn't pointed to you necessarily & I should have been clear on that. I was mostly meaning many of these other posts. The one sentence posts where a poster comes into a thread with a crappy one liner that contains no logic or reasoning then disappears.

And draft Cam Ward, then I’ll be convinced that this team is not serious about winning.

You do realize Ward has the most career touchdowns in D1 history? He’s put the ball in the end zone more than anyone else. I don’t necessarily want to trade up for him but I understand why teams would want to take a chance on him

He's the best QB by a mile in a very bad QB class. If they think he's the guy it makes sense but in my opinion, they should avoid it. Likely the asking price is even higher because the team knows it's a bad QB draft so you can leverage that for desperate teams like the Saints to gift away their draft for years to come. Would be a mistake in my opinion. I don't trust the Saints evaluation and I certainly don't trust Loomis.

These people come on here profising like they're Jeremiah, but in reality they're just playing the odds. Taking the safe bet by saying a guy will not make it thinking it makes them look educated and tuned in.

I actually would not. I wish Ward the best. One of my points that I was trying to make in the OP is that being a successful QB in the league is highly contextual. There are very few examples where the talent was so overwhelming that they rose above circumstances.
Ward can be successful….in the right context. The Saints are not that context. We lack consistently healthy receiving threats, our offensive line is bottom 1/3 of the league, our best skill player is a 30 yr old running back, AND to get Ward we would give up assets needed to give him offensive help.

I am just a long time fan. Never meant to insinuate that I was a professional scout or knew more than other fans. Just stating a concern from watching Loomis operate for 20 years and listening/reading to actual professional scouts regularly. I haven’t heard any “professional scouts” say Ward is the kind of prospect that you mortgage your future for. They almost unanimously say “he’s the best QB of a weak QB draft. Most years he would barely be a first round QB but because he came out in a down year, he gets to be # 1”.
Also, the professional football people in Vegas currently have the Saints as the 3rd best odds to have the #1 pick next year. I don’t think Cam moves our odds much higher and so we would likely lose a top 1-5 pick next year.

You're right. The Saints have done a great job drafting players over the past 2 years. I would hate to have given up any of those picks for a franchise QB.

Going back to my original point, I would suggest that Nix was successful because of the ideal situation for him ( Payton’s preference/experience with smart, highly accurate QBs and a top defensive unit).
I think if Nix was drafted by most teams, he would not have been nearly as successful.

Just trying to avoid a repeat of the Archie Manning era. Draft a first round QB high and surround him with guys who shouldn’t even be in the league.
Trading so many picks will give us Cam Ward and a team of UDFA’s. Archie Manning experience part 2

I'm not saying he's a lock or even that we should do it. But would I trade the #9 pick, next years first rounder, Chris Olave, and a 3rd rounder for a franchise QB? Absolutely.

Heard some of the same things spewed in 2018 when Baker Mayfield went #1. After playing for two shite franchises, Baker has gotten his feet under him in Tampa. Also, two QBs that had a lot of questions surrounding them who were taken after Mayfield now have multiple MVPs between the both of them.

This is not even close to being accurate.

Is the Saints trading up to 1 a rumor with legs to it or just something you’re saying on this board?

what happened to new beginnings?

We signed a good coach and his staff and made some solid FA moves.

you are being so dramatic right now that you're referencing shite from the 70's.

get a grip. the sky is not falling. even if you're doomsday scenario of trading for Cam becomes reality. The fan base will leave you behind and move forward with a fresh start.

something we have not had in a very long time. but yet a lot of fans refuse to see the forest through the tree's.

If you don't have a QB...nothing else matters. I'm tired of having these projects that don't amount to anything.

It wouldn't kill this team just once to make a big move for a top prospect.

I think that you just proved my point. Baked went to a franchise that was in bad shape ( then another in Carolina). It wasn’t until he got to a Tampa team w solid pieces that he could be his best.
In that scenario, we are Cleveland and Carolina. To use your words, we are a “shite franchise” right now. That’s why I say wait to draft a QB until we are ready.

Also, Sanders is a great comp for Baker Mayfield. Accurate QB but is an average athlete who needs lots of playmakers to be successful. Brings lots of off field drama due to things he ( or in Sanders case- his dad) say.
I’m sorry I don’t want to spend a first round pick to hope that we get Baker Mayfield. I want to wait and draft a difference maker in a later draft.

I'm not sold on Cam, especially giving up next years 1st to get him. Also no sold on Nix yet either.
