Yes, if we want to lose a ton of cap.

The thing people misunderstood about the rule is that no further unguaranteed money became guaranteed with it, but it didn't make any already guaranteed money suddenly unguaranteed.

But if you want to believe in fairies and Santa go right ahead bruh. xD

i will. that's why there's a ton of tweets about teams monitoring a kamara trade situation.

Ok. Sure buddy.

The same idiots that overlooked how the rule actually worked are the same idiots tweeting trade rumors for clicks.

And you are cute when you think you know something. This is the details:

LINK

"Alvin Kamara signed a two year, $23.5 million contract extension with the Saints on October 24, 2024. $22.23 million is guaranteed of which $12 million is newly guaranteed money. Kamara received a $15.5 million signing bonus and his 2025 salary is fully guaranteed. Kamara\'s 2024 salary cap number decreased by $2.39 million following the extension. His 2025 salary cap figure remains virtually identical to the salary cap number the Saints would have had remaining in dead money on Kamara\'s prior contract. In 2026 the Saints converted $10.155 million to reduce his cap number by $8.124 million. His dead money increases for 2027 by a corresponding amount."

Pretty much everything added for 2025 and 2026 was fully guaranteed. Everyone ooooing and awwwwing over the rule they used completely overlooked that.

It literally saved us $1.25 mil total by doing it (next year, not this year), but we are still on the hook for the rest of it, meaning he cannot be traded until post June 1st or we lose $11 mil in cap.

It's actually even worse than before the conversion iirc because even more of the dead money would sit on 2026 instead of going to 2027 like it would have before.

The move everyone thought was made to trade Kamara actually spoke the opposite.

Yes, of course, if we want to lose cap space we can obviously and stupidly trade him prior to June 1st and lose $11 mil in space.

Or we can wait until after June 1st, when the compensation will be even worse and the FA market bare.

Not sure why people are this insanely obsessed with trading him. You save $3 mil after June 1st, get shite compensation, and have a hole on the roster, or you lose $11 mil in space and get slightly better than shite compensation and have to fill the hole.

Im not sure about that. Kamara’s a different kind of cat

ETA: but if we do, I’d say a 5th at best. Maybe 5/6 swap or 5/7 swap

That goes to show you he's not putting in 100% effort and just riding the payday the Saints are paying out.

A recent restructuring of Kamara’s contract did not add any guaranteed money beyond the $3 million already on the books for the veteran back, so the team could part ways with him via a trade or release. Kamara could also retire as he has said in the past that he would not be interested in playing for any team other than the Saints.

On Thursday, head coach Kellen Moore offered little insight into how things
