would the Saints go after Bridgewater or keep Winston?
What do you guys think?

Well if Teddy is cut, he'd not go against the compensatory formula like Winston would if we resigned him.

cutting him would only save $3M in cap space, so why wouldn't they just keep him for a year as an expensive backup.

With that said, I'd resign Winston over Bridgewater.

Same here, but if that scenario happens then it would be interesting to see what Payton would do.

I’d try Winston feeling he has a higher ceiling under a good coach in Payton. Teddy is a good guy, but he is what he is. Average at best but not a franchise QB

If Teddy wasn’t good enough for Carolina what makes you think we would want him back? I think I would try and sign Winston instead. Winston has more upside to him to work with then your boy Teddy.

Honestly with Brady going 1-2 more years in Tampa, if Carolina got Watson I would want to scrap most of it and plan for 2 years from now.

The colts got Wentz, not Watson.

I opined that I would take Winston, but I wondered if Payton would too. After all both were back ups at NO recently and Winston wasn’t good enough for Tampa

The short and obvious answer is that Bridgewater had a lot more success here than Winston did.

Kind of easy to do that when 1 of them had opportunity and the other did not.
Bridgewater may have gone 5-0 but it was not very good on offense. 12 points against Dallas, 13 against Jacksonville during that stretch

If this was 2019 or even the 2020 team rosters then I could see an argument for Bridgewater since we had darn good rosters all around with pretty damn good defenses. I don't have as much confidence in overall 2021 roster, so I would lean towards the QB with more upside which in my opinion is Winston. Our roster will see more change from 2020 to 2021 than it has in any one year in quite some time, and if we're being honest that usually does not bode well in year 1, so a "play it safe" QB like Bridgewater is not an ideal fit. All that being said, if Teddy ends up a free agent I would definitely look at possibly bringing him back if he's willing to sign a cheap contract as a great backup and fringe starter

I'm not sure that's "easy". Winston couldn't beat out Tasyom for the job. While not conclusive, that's evidence that shouldn't be ignored.

The optimism for Winston is based on things he's done elsewhere. He's shown nothing so far in New Orleans. That doesn't mean he isn't a better option. But, if you are asking why the staff may like Bridgewater over Winston, it's probably a similar story to why they chose to go with Taysom.

Teddy was on the team a full year + before getting a start Jameis had like a a quarter to show what he can do. No preseason as well. I dont think its at all fair to compare the 2 situations.

Taysom had the edge based on the experience with the playbook. Thats really kind of it.

we're not going to allow Taysom's mobility into the equation? its an unquestioned dynamic of Taysom's game that is a difference maker compared to Jameis.
