In 16 drafts, Payton took 3 TE’s. One was Jimmy Graham, one was Trautman, and one was a 7th rd pick
Also in 16 drafts, Payton had drafted 4 QBs. One was Tommy Stevens who was never going to play Qb. Canfield was also a 7th Rd pick.
Payton never really spent much draft equity on either position

He had drew brees his entire saints coaching career.
As far as tight end they waited to long to invest in the position with trautman. Should've used a pick a year or two earlier.

Is it his incredible arm talent?
His escapability?
Ability to pick up hard 3rd downs?
He doesn't have the upside you need in a project.

Well, that's your opinion. I haven't saw enough of him to have an opinion, but the staff thought he was worthy of a spot... I'm guessing they thought someone would get him if he were out on PS

Concerning isn't it? Drafted him in the fourth when everywhere else had him slated in the last round or undrafted.
Ian Book should only be found on a roster under emergent circumstances. He is small, slow, poor decision making, weak arm. You may be able to cut it with one of these knocks, but not with all of them. He is gritty and competitive which makes for a good college QB but that alone won't will you to wins in the NFL.

Not really. Taysom only gets the big money for paying qb. He gets paid pretty reasonably if he’s lining up at rb/te/wr.

I love when people complain about wasting day 3 picks. Like the hit rate on those guys are so high lol. You just looking for a guy that shows a flash of potential or special teams players. A lot of those guys you end up having to cut before they develop anyway because our roster is so deep. We can trade all our day 3 picks for another 3rd every year for all I care.
