re: I suck at capology—Can someone break down why we can’t designate Carr a post 6/1 cut?

This is actually a very good point. I believe they worked some deals out with Michael Thomas to help navigate that. Basically made it seem like he got a new contract but allowed for a post 6/1 cut. Now, they are so far over the cap I’m not sure how they can manage the post 6/1 cuts. The idea of extending these players and giving more dead money down the road and prolonging this has to end. These players (4 of them) are at the end or very late of their careers.

Someone should help Birdbrain (Gail) understand just how much money all this BS costs her.

This is at minimum a 2 year band-aid...maybe 3.

If they want to do it right its a 2-3 year process at least.

It will keep prolonging if they continue to extend and push the money down the road.

Getting rid of Carr, Lattimore, Jordan, and Rams contract does that. Kamara was the other one but i can’t imagine he’s leaving now.
To become cap compliant before the new year, you're going to have to do a lot more manipulation than just cuts.
That's the way these contracts were designed and unfortunately you're stuck with it for another two years. At this point this team is committed to the vets they signed, unless you intend on cutting them all---you have to do a combination of cutting dead weight, letting them retire, restructure young guys, and not be stupid and signing 30+mil players.

Unfortunately for them extending and kicking the can in aging bad contracts is the only way to do it. So unless they gut the team you’ll see all of that 36 million in 2026 turn into a large red number too.

I spend way too much stupid time (see the other thread), we won't be in the red if we only do what we did this offseason.
