Hardly a bad thing if we add weapons and help the o line

People just need to get comfortable with the idea of rebuilding with Carr as the bridge to find the future qb.

Doesn't matter. Dumbass Loomis will keep kicking the can down the road. We'll be stuck with Carr until he retires.

Must be nice to have lifetime security in your job even when you're NOT related to the owner of the company.

Well when your numbers aren’t matching the rest of the saints board experts who is a guy to trust? Y’all all contradict one another.

You can go to over the cap. Or spotrac.

Then idk why you’re so confused. Most of the money you see is bs money they add on, rarely ever made by players. That’s they emphasize the “guaranteed part”. Go look at cousins counteract. Falcons aren’t gonna pay him near the 150.

I’m really not confused about guaranteed money. I’m confused as to how much we’ve paid him already and what the theoretical dead cap hits would be if we were to cut him next year.

If he plays all 4 years he will see his $150 million. I think your the confused one there. Go look at over the cap. Every dime is accounted for.

Did you really or think he’s gonna finish this contract here? He’s gonna make 70 mill next year, releasing him saves 10 of that leaving 60 in dead money. Saints appear to have 60 in cap space next year and c him gives them even more. So they’ll most likely pay him 60 and trade or cut him. I believe he also has a roster bonus next year, which he won’t get any of that either. So, he’s probably gonna make about 100-110 mill of his 150 on that contract.

This is actually about right for the numbers at the end if he is cut next year (June 1st or not doesn't matter for actual cash he will have earned). If he stays next year he gets the full $150 mil. If he is cut he will have made $110 mil.

While that means it is completely possible we can cut him next year (as Rand's numbers were pretty bang on), it is far from a sure thing we will cut him next year. If we don't see end of 2024/beginning of 2025 Carr then I think it's possible, but if he plays around that level it would be hard to justify not paying $40 mil to keep him.

Because that is the question next year, do we pay Carr $40 mil to play or not. The number itself is very reasonable for a starter, but not if he proves inept, regardless of the circumstances.

I hope you’re right but nothing would surprise me at this point. If he has a half decent season I could see Mickey extending him

As I posted the other day, I heard some of the Saints talking heads on WWL radio the other day. They were saying that if the Saints restructured Derek Carr, his dead cap salary hit would be $69 million next year. In other words, would be stuck with him for at least another 2 to 3 years - even if he’s not f*cking playing.

I have no idea if that’s true, it’s just what the “experts“ were saying.

All the talking heads could do is speculate until the actual restructure was done. Now that it is done, both over the cap & spotrac show his total cap next year at around $69M. And if cut, the dead money would be $59.5M. Still. A big F*ing hit for someone not under contract, but the cap space for ‘26 shows that it could fit if they don’t go too heavy in free agency this year. And if they do, they need to sign guys to 3+ year deals to keep the big hits to ‘27 and later

As I recall, they said his dead money hit would’ve been $25 million next year had we not restructured. It would’ve been almost impossible to cut him this year given that we're still in salary cap hell. However, taking a $25 million cut next year would’ve at least cleared us up to start our rebuilding.

It’s just f*cking insane how he keeps pushing the can down the road with no fricking end in sight and the team just keeps getting in worse and worse salary cap f*cking hell. It's almost like the motherf*cker is trying to f*ck this team up as much as possible as far out into the f*cking future as possible.

Is he some sort of Roger Goodell plant?

Good recall, would have been $29M. I only know because I posted about it a few hours before the restructure so I had the figure in a post.

Definitely one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t things. Had they gone without restructuring him, they would have had to restructure/extend damn near everyone else with a cap hit over $10M

If they extend him we deserve to be the worst team in the league. Nothing surprises me anymore but holy fuk having him on the team after this year is a massive mistake
