How Important Was Terry Fontenot To The Process?

Would he have been a better GM than Loomis and a better personnel guy than Ireland?

At the end of the day, it takes a village. Fans like to point out superior village members that is self created in our heads but its hard to be certain how the village functions with the doors closed. I think highly of Fontenot.

His first two drafts were ok. But he was a longtime pro personnel guy. Ireland is a college personnel guy.
I’m sure there is a ton of crossover between the two jobs, but Ireland has been rock solid in the draft.
It’s sad they pulled what could have been franchise-saving draft picks away to draft Olave though. That seems more like a Loomis decision though.

And unfortunately, I fully expect Loomis to trade 2024's 1st to package with the 2023's 2nd to get into the backend of the 1st round of the 2023 draft. It's just what he does

At least Olave was a hit. Gonna need guys like him to be good again.

I'm pretty sure Falcons fans want him gone

True, but the problem is that Olave is not worth the price the Saints paid to get him. The Saints passed up a chance to draft a quarterback next year. Hindsight is 20-20 but the Saints deluded themselves into thinking Winston/Dalton was going to lead this team to the Super Bowl if they traded to get Olave.
The NFL is a quarterback-driven league. Without a really good QB, it’s unlikely you’re going to win a Super Bowl. You need players like Olave but they don’t help you win a Super Bowl if you don’t have a quarterback. You have to solve that before you pin down everything else. The Bengals got to a Super Bow last year despite a terrible offensive line because they had the quarterback.

Nope. Looking forward to what he does with all the money freed up after this season.

I watch the Falcons every week, because I live here and they have put together one tough arse run game along with good O-Linemen. I havent heard one Falcons fan complain about the GM yet

You know Ryan has to be pissed about this. 14 years w Atl and had a good oline for 2 or 3 years, then gets traded away while they are finally investing in the oline

Well that's a surprise since all last year on their forum the fans railed against him and Arthur Smith and wanted both gone.
It's not like this year has been much of an improvement.

They wanted a GM gone who had been on the job less than a year and inherited all of Dimitroff's stupid contracts? Well, they're dumb as frick. It was always going to be a 2 year rebuild at the least. Falcons just now get a chance to play in the free agent market after this season.
