Listening and watching the media today and visiting fan forums in general. The talking point is. "Well of course the Cowboys lost, they play the friggin Saints!"

When back during the older days it was more like. "How could you lose to the friggin Saints?!"

HOw great must it feel that those weaker teams fanbases or rebuilding ones usually chalk up a game with the Saints as an automatic loss if they Saints are in the schedule when the Saints use to be rent a win.

Bobby Hebert was the first QB of my lifetime to bring us to a winning season. He brought a few years of success but nothing like what Drew and Payton has. When I was in middle school in the early 80’s, the saints were bad. They got on a run, if I remember correctly, when we were in the late 80’s then we fell off the face of the earth with Brooks.

Wish my grandpa were here to see it. He died midway through the 2009 season and had dementia throughout the early Payton/Brees years. He was a die-hard who dat.

Feels great.... and it's contributing to my anxiety over the coming end of the Brees era... I don't wanna go back there!!!

Even after 13 years of the Payton/Brees era, the Saints being the talk of the NFL at times as a contender is still sort of new. Unfortunately, it will have to eventually end. But, it’s nice to be talked about in a positive way.

Let’s just describe it this way:
For the SB win, I was semi-retired in the south TX Hill country. Watched the game at the regular watering hole till the end. Found myself sitting at the bar almost balling like a baby when Porter grabbed the INT. A lot of friends/folks came over to ask if I was ok.

I replied, “You don’t understand. I have waited more than 40 years for this night”!

In retrospect, the wait made it that much sweeter:-). But it was a lonnnnnng road.

Just thankful I got to see it happen; many friends were not so lucky. Although they probably had a better seat :-)

I can say I watched the first game with my Dad. Does that make me a old timer? Can't say I like the term much.

And it has been quite the arc from celebrating the first non losing season lol, first playoff win and 09 its given a fan perspective along with the city thats been great to behold.

I remember being a kid and watching all of the other games and going outside to play when LSU and the Saints came on because they sucked so bad.

Let's just put it this way, the Saints during the early years drove alcohol sales through the roof.

I remember Mario Bates being my favorite player smh. Or getting excited over Billy Joel Tollivers performance against the jags on prime time.

I remember how excited I was when Ditka was hired. I thought he was something. I don't think he ever took the job seriously. The "iron era" was a clown show. I never looked at Ditka the same ever again. I don't even credit him with the Bears success anymore. He's one of the most overrated coaches in history.

60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s...
Ahead by two touchdowns going into the fourth quarter? We’re screwed.

Brees era...
Down by two touchdowns with five minutes left? We got this.

Makes me realize how spoiled I have been as fan. I first really was able to understand NFL around 2000. I've been able to see 9 playoff wins, which is basically a playoff win every other season. Only one season where they won less than 7 games, which was the anomaly Katrina year where they had no home.

You take out the bounty gate shite, which played a big part in the 7-9 stretch for 3 straight seasons, and the only team more dominant over the last 10 seasons is New England. Even with that the Saints are top 4. Crazy.

First playoff win was with Brooks. Brooks is always clowned, but he is a top 3 QB in our franchise history. Archie was way, way before my time but I will give respect to him and have him at 2 based on what people that saw him say. Brees clearly #1, and the best overall player in team history.

You never know this team might be good for another decade. Keep management stable, keep Sean around. There will be a few let down seasons of course, but we also might get lucky and have another QB we can rely on after Drew.
