Bingo. The liberals who thought up affirmative action can't see (or refuse to see) the double standard they've imposed. It's only discrimination in their eyes if it's to the detriment of a minority.

That's why you won't see a White History Month. That's Racist!!!

The NFL is made up of 70% or more african american players, why shouldn't teams have to draft a certain amount of white players to balance the scales.

jackmotherfrickingpot

That's also stupid. If you draft a player you're in effect hiring them, which doesn't apply to the Rooney Rule. A Rooney Rule player equivalent would be something like inviting more white guys to the combine.

Exactly; how fricking stupid does that sound?

The rule is full retard. I don't think there is or ever will be a team that is looking for a coach, has a guy in mind but all of a sudden falls in love with some minority guy who comes in as a part of this rule.

if it is there to help them get interview practice, then that is stupid aswell because they arent ever going to get a job because they don't have what it takes because they need some stupid fricking rule just to get an interview.

If it is to stop teams from being discriminatory in their hiring, it won't change shite because they still wont hire the guy, they'll just talk to him for 30 mins and give him the "we'll call you".

My point exactly Pendulum, there should not be a Rooney rule or any other rules like it.

It's a slap in the face of the individual being interviewed. It's a made up bullshite rule, just to pacify the Jessie Jackson and Al Sharptons of the world !!! PATHETIC!!!

I think the rule is ridiculous. I do think there are racist owners still (totally opinion), but making them interview minority candidates does nothing. After the interviews they are still racist and still won't hire the minority coach.

The rule needs to go.

The NFL has created more minority millionaires than any other business. Not sure why such a rule is needed.

The rule is bullshite, if you can coach. If an owner fricks up because he is a racist and the guy he hires shits the bed and the minority guy goes to be a HOF coach then that is the owners fault, he shouldn't be forced to interview a minority.

the rooney rule is blatantly racist and it's quite belittling to the black man who's interviewing for the position. How shitty would you feel if you went for a job interview knowing that you were there just to fulfill a stipulation?

I also think the Rooney Rule isn't really needed. Owners that may not want a black head coach don't exist anymore. There's too much money involved for it to be based on anything other than merit, or marketability in the case of some big name coaches. You're coaching heritage is much more important to your opportunities than your racial heritage.

Herm Edwards seems like a really nice guy in person. Unfortunately I have been listening to ESPN too much lately and he is annoying as shite on the tube but especially on the radio. Most of the time he is screaming staccato jibberish.

The Dolphins CEO was overheard when he thought he was off air saying he didn't hire Mike Tomlin because he was too "hip hop"

If you don't think that implies because he is black and that didn't deter him from getting the Dolphins job, then I guess I can't really help you there.

Sounds to me like your racial profiling. Do you mean that you "THINK" the Dolphins CEO is refering to Tomlin's skin color, or ethnic background, by making this remark? How could you possibly deduce this, unless, of course, you yourself are rcially profiling?

Maybe that has nothing to do with Tomlin being black and everything to do with the CEO of the Dolphins not liking hip hop culture
LOL

Come on now.

Simple question, why did the dolphins CEO think Tomlin was too hip hop?

There's really only one answer here. I can't fathom anything else.

Hilarious.

I'm sure Tomlin showed up to the interview in "hip hop gear" and talking in "hip hop" slang, and that's why the dolphins CEO felt today way, right?

That's the only way you'd have any chance of being remotely correct, here.

Ehh... I can see it being a very poorly worded version of being too much a player's coach and too involved with the players.

If you speak enough in public, you misspeak sometimes. While I think its a little racist, its nothing to get all up in arms about, even though I don't approve of racist talk at all.

Personally, if a team is too dumb to hire a great black coach, they are hurting themselves.

Yeah, but Mike Tomlin looks exactly like Omar Epps.
You can't explain that.
