Here’s what NFL execs, coaches, and scouts think about Saints LB Demario Davis

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler polled a number of his sources around the NFL to rank the league’s best linebackers going into the 2023 season, and New Orleans Saints star Demario Davis didn’t just make the cut again — he slotted in at the same spot as last year, ranking No. 6 overall. Not bad for the oldest player on the list.

“He’s awesome,” an NFC exec told Fowler. “He seems to be somehow getting better. We hate playing against him.”

Davis received his first career Pro Bowl nod last season at age 34, having been recognized on the Associated Press All-Pro team several years in a row leading up to it. He’s developed into a strong run defender while rushing the quarterback and covering receivers downfield. The NFL’s only every-down linebacker is a critical part of the Saints defense.
“He’s become a better all-around player each year in that (Saints) scheme and how he’s deployed,” added an NFC scout. “You see a lot of similarly gifted athletes struggle at LB, especially when drafted high and are asked to be immediately productive, but he had time to figure it out and his game took off.”

We’ll see how much more gas Davis has left in the tank, but he’s aging well and continuing to play a vital role for New Orleans. He’s a cornerstone in that locker room.

My favorite Saints defensive player all-time. He has missed only one out of 177 games in his career. Except for his rookie season where he didn't start till the 14th game he has never had a season with less than 90 tackles and in 2017 with the Jets racked up 135 total tackles with (97 Solo!!) with 5 sacks and not a Pro Bowl or All pro nod!! Eight of his eleven seasons with more than 100 tackles and his last 6 in a row with more than 100 tackles. Only one of three active NFL players with more than 1200 career stops. What an incredible body of work and still performing at that level.

The guy is made of steel. He plays the most physical position in football and he’s getting better with age. On top of that he’s just a really good human being and the type of guy you want all your young players to learn from.

When the jets let Demario walk in 2018 even though he had a career year with them they opted to sign Avery Williamson who was a bit younger and a pretty good LB himself. Williamson proceeded to put together a couple of good seasons but has been out of the league since 2021. We definitely got the better end of the deal.

I like Demario the player a lot, but he’s also at least partly responsible for why most of this board (not me), hates Drew Brees for “waffling”. A big part of it was Drew listening to and trying to appease Demario Davis.

I don’t think Demario is a bad human fwiw. But since most hate Brees on this board, I’m surprised more don’t dislike Demario Davis for his role in the Brees trying to make amends with his teammates so he could play 1 more year, situation.

I’m sure Demario is the one who stuck that name tape on Drew’s helmet also

I never got how you could be all pro and not make the pro bowl. It’s fricking stupid.

The entire team had that shite on their helmet baw.

You think Brees could’ve declined to do that in his situation?
