Hypothetically speaking if we were to blow it up who would you keep?

I'd say Vacarro, Jordan, Breaux, Rankins, Bell. Everybody else is suspect. Maybe Anthony cuz he's still young.

So basically who would your locks be?

LE Kikaha
DT Rankins (I wouldn't feel comfortable giving Fairley a huge contract so he's gone)
NT Davison/Onyemama
RE Jordan

SLB Anthony(only cause he's young)/ Mauti (core special teamer)
MLB
WLB Robertson/Stupar

CB1 Breaux/Crawley
CB2 Williams/Moore
SS Vaccarro/Harris
FS Bell

How about we play a season where our best defensive playmakers aren't injured before we talk about blowing up a unit that is, at best, two seasons old?

What is there to blow up? This team was blown up in 2011 and hasn't built anything since. We've basically just started the rebuilding process last year with our focus on defense in the draft.

Exactly, I think the easier question to answer is what current starter (who isn't filling in for someone who is injured) would you get rid of immediately?

Are there any veteran stud mike linebackers who can cover available in freeagency? That's a position you can sign and it not be an insane contract, which would free draft picks for more expensive positions (like d-line). It just HAS to work. No more Hawthorne/Lofton signings.

Decent guys, nothing with high potential honestly. We could have been fine with Kendricks...

Malcolm Smith
Stephen Tulloch
Manti te'o
Kevin minter
Kiko alonso

I don't think anyone could start on another defense in the NFL!

Yeah, Cam Jordan and Breaux suck.

Smith, Tulloch, and Te'o are basically Lauranitis. Smart guys who can line up the defense but are absolutely atrocious against the pass. Minter and Alonso are too inconsistent but both would be upgrades over Lauranitis. The best MLB FA is Donta Hightower but I doubt New England let's him walk. We could go after Jamie Collins but he's more of a WLB.

I like these 14 players which may indicate a couple of things.

1) that we are still at least 6-7 players short on the defensive side of the ball.

2) Maybe it isn't always the players but the scheme.
