Hicks’ beef was with Bill Johnson and Payton. He loved Ryan. His ire stems from the saints moving him to DE when we fired Ryan (3-4) and switched to Allen’s 4-3

Looked it up because that wasn't how I remembered it. Hicks was traded in Sept of 2015, Ryan wasn't fired until Nov 2015. I thought they made the base Def switch after the transition, did the team force Ryan to run Allen's defense before he was termed?

Uh, yeah.
That's why we signed Jarius Byrd.
Payton got infatuated with the Cover-3 and basically forced Rob Ryan into running it when he had no idea how to do it, which is why we went to poo more quickly than that usual Rob Ryan defensive pattern.

Exactly what I was going to post. That trade was garbage at the time and looks worse now. A 2nd-3rd string blocking TE.
