saw him yesterday at the Fairgrounds with John Carney. He was walking with a cane. Looked pretty bad. You know he has too much pride to walk out with a cane on the football field.

The world needs more people like him. When i heard a few months ago that he was sick and his wife had just became pregnant after trying forever, it really hit home.

When i started thinking that he was on the opposite side of the field only 5 years ago busting his arse to block that punt, I started to feel bad.

I met him once at Saints training facility doing some work.........carried on a conversation with me and a buddy athletic trainer for like 20 minutes like he knew us for years. Great Guy.......I think Benson and the Saints need to figure something out to keep his name in lore forever.

+1

That was definitely one of the more powerful moments that I can remember. That's twice now Gleason has brought me to tears in the dome. Steve is one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting. It is truly tragic that he has to suffer with something like that. God Bless, Steve... you'll always a Saint

Man I had no idea of his condition, such an awful thing for someone to go through. I feel bad for his family. I got to my seat just in time to see him lead the pregame chant. I noticed him limping off the field and wondered what was wrong with him.

Prayers sent Steve.

I don't want to watch this. I already cried once when I saw it live.

it is really tough watching someone deteriorate like that...it's hard to believe he was in such great shape just two years ago and now he doesn't even have much function of the right side of his body...what a terrible disease.

Every person I sit around was wiping their eyes after that chant. And its almost all men. That was a really great moment.

Great Article written by Jeff Duncan discussing SG's full progression from career with the Saints, to marriage, diagnosis, and life after.

He's making a video documentary of his life for his child
