Getting Watson would definitely mean losing both Armstead and Williams.

Not saying you don’t make that trade-off because you absolutely do but the money just won’t work. It will help that we won’t have to factor in a 1st and probably 2nd round pick into the budget because Watson is going to eat a big chunk. If it’s one you can bring back it Williams without hesitation and hope to find a starting LT in the draft or move Ramcyzk over and hope you can put Landon Young at RT or draft someone in the middle rounds. That’s on top of finding another WR and most likely at TE and another DE if Davenport is traded. Payton Turner and Carl Granderson will have to step up big.

If the deal is made, wasn't there talk about an extension? How much space could that help create?

Armstead misses 6 games a year already. What's another 11?

I do t think Williams ever really was big on being here. If so we need to go after Mathieu. It makes too much sense.

Saints only want to pay a certain salary for both players and they are going to get more.

Mickey Loomis knows the salary cap much better than you do.

I swear people never learn.

Mathieu isn't a Free Safety. He can't replace Marcus Williams.

All the Saints dominoes are waiting on Watson..

If Ramczyk, Peat, and Davenport are in the deal then a simple extension of Watsons contract will free up a lot of cap space.

Yup. Just waiting on the trade.

It's not a coincidence that there hasn't been news yet on any Saints FAs or rumored targets like Mathieu.

Do you have to be under the cap when you acquire the player or is it just a deadline?

I’m not suggesting he replace Williams I’m suggesting he replace Malcolm Jenkins since we can save $7.5 million if we release him if I recall correctly. The Fact is we may have PJ Williams playing Williams old spot next year just to save money. What is clear is that if the Watson deal goes through then us hitting on our 3rd,4th and 5th round picks for the next few years will be important. I have no doubt we can find solid Interior OL and safety talent in those rounds but we will need to sign another proven WR to go with Thomas at a cheap rate.

You land Watson, you deal with losing Armstead and Williams.

I’d still try to get Armstead back. He wants to come back and they can figure out a deal he would sign. Maybe 3 years $39 million. I’ll risk $13 mil a year for a top 5 elite LT when he’s healthy to protect my new franchise QB’s blindside. Williams is no question a top 5 High safety in his own right but you can replace that much easier.

Armstead can’t be had for 13 mil a year. Many are suggesting that he will get close to 20 a year because of how shallow the free agency pool is for LT’s.

Based on nothing. Never a hint of that anywhere. The Saints are not going to fork out the money anymore for Armstead due to his injury issues but I've heard they are trying to figure a way to keep Williams even though they didn't tag him.

Williams hurts, no Way around it, but armstead is not a deal breaker. Not only is he injury prone, but a mobile quarterback makes an elite tackle a little less necessary. I think ram check has what it takes to move to love tackle, and there are free agents like L. Collins we could plug in on the right side. We also have picks

I'm good with the Saints offering them both what they feel they're worth and moving on if another team overpays. It's a key part of the process that has led to the successful management of their salary cap. It's one thing to be up against the cap every year. It's another thing to be up against the cap every year with a player whose performance does not match their pay.
